We are currently looking for Co-op students to join our team for 6 & 8 months or longer terms starting May 2023.

Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. – an employee owned, western Canada based company, is looking for Civil and Environmental Technology students in the Prince George area.

As a student at Terracon, you will be exposed to a variety of different tasks and responsibilities. You will gain experience in soils engineering, drill monitoring and construction monitoring, QA/QC monitoring techniques, site investigations, foundation inspections and general soils testing. You will work on oil sands sites or in the laboratory. The work environment includes an open pit mine which requires close attention to safety and excellent verbal communication skills.

FIELD TECHNICIAN/TECHNOLOGIST – CIVIL ENGINEERING POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS

 ·         Grasp a wide breath of civil engineering facets such as – soils, earthwork, and concrete testing, construction monitoring, perform quality control testing, and basic survey layout

·         Provide client representatives with field testing results and monitor sub-contractor adherence to design specifications

·         Attain material testing techniques in a resource based professional environment

·         Monitor, document, and verify that the earthworks construction meets design specifications

·         Gain knowledge from employees with a wealth of industry and Terracon experience

·         Engage in the implementation of safety controls and promotion of safety in the workplace

 

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN/TECHNOLOGIST – ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS

·         Conduct Geotechnical laboratory testing on soils and aggregate like proctors, sieves, hydrometer, specific gravity and Atterberg limits as well as compressive strength testing concrete materials meeting the respective ASTM and CSA standards

·         Calibrate and complete preventative maintenance on lab equipment

·         Ensure testing is being performed safely and in a timely manner while properly documenting results

·         Receive the opportunity to be trained and work on field-based projects

Qualifications

·         Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Technology, or Geosciences diploma program

·         Experience in a technical role is considered an asset

·         Eager and willing to learn all aspects of the industry

·         Ability to work under pressure

·         Flexible and a strong team player

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·         Excellent time management and prioritization skills

·         Strong ability to update documentation and maintain information

·         Ability to drive a 4x4 vehicle off road

·         Dedication and attention to safety and client site rules and regulations

 

Working Conditions, Schedule, and Physical Requirements

·         Legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis

·         Must have valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and 2 years’ driving experience

·         High School Diploma required

·         Must be physically able to perform field work as required

·         Successfully perform a Fit for Work and Drug and Alcohol test

·         Driving on mine roads; operating an all-terrain vehicle

·         Working outdoors in all types of weather

·         Rotational schedule including days and night shifts

·         Schedule often involves 12-hour shifts
