003J - Seasonal Pre-Professional Interpreter/22 weeks (KCF)

Job Purpose

This position builds a personal connection between the site and the visitors, including bringing site-specific knowledge and incorporating general information to provide context, and coordinate daily programming, small and large events, and unique experiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·       Working with the Farmhands Day Camp guiding groups of children in games, chores, and cooking activities common on a turn of the century farm. 

.    Interpret Kline Creek Farm to visitors by giving tours.

·       Cleaning program areas including mopping the summer kitchen.

·       Greeting visitors at the Visitor Center.

·       Operating the museum store.

·       Help care for museum artifacts.

·       Assist with programs.

·       Additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

Physical Demands:  Ability to lift/move up to 60Ibs. (i.e. program material including washstands, barn beams, bushels of corn, hay bales, etc.

Work Environment:  Outdoors in all types of weather conditions

Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire; possession of a valid driver’s license.

Hours:  Mid May - October; 24 hours per week/weekend hours will be scheduled in advance and weekly schedule will be adjusted to accommodate weekend work            

Requirements.:  Completed a minimum of 3 years of undergraduate studies in Museum Studies, History, Education, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Candidate:  One season of experience working with children in an educational or recreational program or one season of museum interpretation.
