Horticultural Attendant

The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is accepting applications for the position of Horticultural Attendant. This role involves a variety of work in the maintenance of the Sculpture Garden and NOMA grounds, including general weeding, plant care, equipment use, and irrigation inspections. The position also assists with occasional painting, pressure washing, and general maintenance of the grounds’ facilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform horticultural tasks including, but not limited to, hand weeding, pruning, mulching, and fertilization
- Safely and appropriately use horticultural and maintenance equipment such as weed whackers, blowers, hedge trimmers, and chainsaws
- Assist with irrigation system maintenance and paver repairs as needed
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work shed and equipment on a daily basis
- Apply a basic understanding of ornamental gardening practices
- Adapt work plans to accommodate changing weather conditions, events, and operational needs
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in garden maintenance
- Basic knowledge of safe pesticide and chemical use and practices
- Understanding of workplace safety processes and procedures
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use tools regularly associated with garden and plant maintenance, including shovels, rakes, trowels, pruning shears, and loppers
- Ability to work outdoors in various conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 40 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to traverse uneven, irregular, and occasionally steep terrain
