Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) – Community-Based Services

Greenville, NC & surrounding areas

Pathways to Life, Inc. is expanding its clinical support team. We are adding Peer Support Specialists to support multiple service lines as our programs grow across community-based care in Eastern North Carolina.

This role is for people who have lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery and are certified (or working toward certification) as a Peer Support Specialist. The work focuses on using that experience to support others in real-world settings: homes, community spaces, and service providers.

Where this role fits

We are expanding services across our clinical and community programs. Peer Support Specialists will not be limited to a single program. You will support members across different service areas, helping reduce gaps in access and increasing time spent in the community with direct support.

Service area: Greenville and surrounding counties

What you will do

You will use your lived experience to support recovery, daily functioning, and community stability.

Typical work includes:

  • Meeting members in community settings (home visits, appointments, public spaces)

  • Supporting daily routines (housing stability, appointments, basic structure)

  • Helping members connect to services (healthcare, benefits, housing, employment supports)

  • Participating in Person-Centered Plan development with clinical teams

  • Working alongside CST Qualified Professionals and licensed staff on shared care plans

  • Providing peer-based de-escalation support when situations become difficult

  • Documenting services in the EHR in line with Medicaid / MCO requirements

  • Attending team meetings and supervision sessions to coordinate care and adjust support plans

Team environment

You will work directly with:

  • Peer Support staff

  • CST Qualified Professionals (QPs)

  • Licensed clinicians

  • Care coordination and community partners

Work is structured around coordination across providers, with shared responsibility for member outcomes.

Some evening or weekend hours may be required based on member needs and scheduling.

Physical expectations

Travel throughout the day across multiple community sites

Why this role exists

As services expand, this position increases direct support capacity across programs and reduces delays in access to peer-based care. The goal is to spend more time with members in their environments, not just in scheduled office settings.
