    Position Summary: 

    At Thrive Behavioral Health Center, we deliver industry leading peer support for those suffering from Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorders. We are proud to set the industry standard and continue our growth. A Harm Reduction Specialist is responsible for providing harm reduction education and resources at outreach events, to clients, and the organization.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Assist outreach managers in building relationships with community partners and collaborations across the state through any assigned communication via email, phone calls, and scheduling meetings.

    • Work with the outreach project management team to execute regular harm reduction outreach events.

    • Assist in creating materials about harm reduction and about outreach events to build awareness and maximize program impact.

    • Educate outreach participants on harm reduction and utilizing Naloxone.

    • Keep accurate and up to date records of harm reduction efforts and submit all assigned reports on time.

    • Assist team in meeting program goals and grant requirements set by the outreach project manager.

    • Establish and maintain effective communication with the outreach team and other Thrive staff members.

    • Create rapport with outreach participants and community partners and conduct necessary follow up.

    • Through identifying as a person in recovery and intentionally sharing their recovery story; use this as appropriate means to assist outreach participants, provide hope, and build rapport.

    • Proactively pursue new harm reduction awareness information and strategies to incorporate into outreach efforts.

    • Monthly travel requirements to each of the 5 regions of Ohio.

    • Other duties as assigned


    • Identify as a person in recovery with one year of successful recovery

    • Medium level proficiency in using social media platforms 

    • Proven self-starter, excellent communicator, and team player

    • Working knowledge of different pathways to recovery and social systems including evidence-based practices 

    • Understands problems analysis, decision-analysis, evaluate interventions, and contingency plans 

    • Ability to be an active listener by asking questions and reflecting on what is being said 

    • Proficient level of ability with computer; Microsoft Office Products 

    • Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to articulate information clearly 

    • Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance 

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Previous experience working in a role providing harm reduction services 

    • Previous experience participating in community outreach initiatives

    Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
