The Chief Engineer is primarily
responsible for supervising all engineering areas and departmental personnel.
S/He will promote a safe working environment and quality service to achieve
maximum guest satisfaction. The Chief Engineer will work with supervisors,
inspectors, and department heads to ensure maximum efficiency.
Chief Engineer shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and

Essential Job Functions:
· Maintain complete
knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies/service
· Maintain complete
knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as

· Install, maintain,
repair, and operate hotel machinery, equipment, and related systems.
· Supervises and assists
the installation and construction of all work.
· Maintain the entire
building, including landscape maintenance.
· Develop and implement
cost reduction, work simplification, and method improvement programs.
· Update and maintain
engineering policies, procedures, work orders, etc.
· Communicate and enforce
policies and procedures.
· Prepare and adjust
weekly work schedules in accordance with staffing guidelines and labor
· Ensure that staff
reports to work as scheduled. Document any late or absent employees.
· Recommend and/or
initiate salary, disciplinary, or other staffing-related actions in accordance
with company rules and policies.
· Coordinate breaks and
assign work duties to staff.
· Provide proper training
and reinforcement to meet standards and requirements.
· Perform general repairs
in maintenance related disciplines, including but not limited to: carpentry,
mechanics, plumbing, electrical, and finish work.
· Prioritize work orders
through urgent requests and established hotel area down times in order to
minimize inconveniencing guests.
· Evaluates all engineering
leases, contracts, and bids.
· Effectively interact
with department heads.
· Confers with landscape
consultants regarding hotel beautification.
· Respond to guest room
calls as required.
· Prioritize, plan,
schedule, assign, and supervise the engineering department with preventative
tasks, work orders, and special projects.
· Perform daily and
weekly property inspections. Ensure property, grounds, and work areas are
maintained to standard and that all safety equipment and conditions are up to
· Control expenses within
all areas of engineering.
· Participate in the
preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and financial plans
which support the overall objectives of the hotel.
· Ensure timely and
accurate completion of projects.
· Inspect, plan and
ensure that all materials and equipment are in complete readiness for service
· Maintain department
equipment and supply inventory levels.
· Ensure security, cleanliness, preventive maintenance and repair of
engineering tools, equipment and safety features, according to established
procedures and within budget.
· Promote sanitation,
safety, security efforts, and guest services of the Hotel.
· Submit weekly progress
reports to the General Manager.
· Submits recommendations
to the General Manager for approval.
· Submits requisitions
and purchase orders for materials needed to the General Manager for approval.
· Follow hotel policy
with lost/stolen items.
· See that all
engineering installations, constructions, and operations comply with hotel and

requirements for guest/employee accidents or injuries and in emergency
· Participate on the
Hotel’s Emergency Evacuation Team.
· Participate in
OSHA/Safety Programs within the hotel through awareness in every day job

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent
Five to ten years hands-on experience working
on electrical, painting, plumbing, A/C, refrigeration repairs
Five years of experience in building and hotel
Vast knowledge of repairing/replacing plumbing
systems, HVAC equipment, refrigeration and kitchen equipment
Knowledge of swimming pool maintenance and
Experience working safely with heavy machinery
Exceptional guest-focus and technical skills
Supervisory experience in engineering and/or
Ability to build morale and spirit
Fluency in other languages beneficial
Must be a United States citizen or possess a
valid work permit
Must be able to read, write, and speak English
Must have exceptional communication skills when
