We are searching for a Principal Systems Engineer to assume the role of Chief Engineer at York Space Systems.   In this role you will work alongside our Product Manager to lead the product development process.  You will be accountable for key engineering processes and driving integration across all of our engineering functions to ensure York delivers on its promise of affordability and agility without compromise to quality.    

The ideal candidate for this role enjoys engaging in program execution as well as organizational development. With extensive experience across the lifecycle of spacecraft development, you are an excellent mentor to younger engineers and a key consultant to all programs.  In this role you will shape the culture and operational philosophy of our engineering teams.  You will focus most of your time on guiding engineering activities internally but will also represent York externally with our customers.  



  • Identify common challenges across programs and facilitate collaboration of team members to ensure technical topics are addressed robustly and consistently. 

  • Act as the process owner for the York technical review process, working to continuously improve our performance.  Facilitate all internal technical reviews. 

  • Serve as the company’s technical authority for a family of product line systems and corresponding programs and proposals. 

  • Support product change review boards. 

  • Review and provide consultation on all technical materials for customer meetings.   

  • Responsible for managing the S-Class and LX-Class technical risk registers and developing any required mitigation plans for all key product technical risks. 

  • Facilitate capture of engineering lessons learned and ensure processes and design guidance tailored from industry best practices and key program learning. 

  • Perform technical trades / feasibility assessments for new product specifications, evaluate customer specifications, lead multi-discipline trade studies, and lead technical proposal generation. 

  • Provide leadership to teams and guidance to less experienced staff members. 

  • Responsible for the configuration management and control of product design BOMs and relevant technical data. 

  • Actively engage in the development and continuous improvement of engineering processes. 

  • Stay abreast on the latest innovations in spacecraft design and development to ensure York remains cutting edge. 


Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or a related field.  Master’s degree preferred but not required. 

  • 15+ years of design or systems engineering or other relevant experience with a minimum of 10+ years in a technical leadership role. 

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, able to work effectively within the organization and convey decisions, direction, results, and conclusions in a manner meaningful to the audience. 

  • Extensive experience in spacecraft design, launch and operation including experience at all phases of the development lifecycle.  

  • Experience in integrated software / hardware verification and test. 

  • Ability to gain a security clearance. 

Preferred Additional Skills 

  • Military customer experience is desired. 

  • Contract and supplier negotiation experience is preferred. 

  • Previous Program Chief Engineer experience
