Position Status: Full Time Term (8 weeks, evenings and weekends)
Compensation: $18.00 per hour, 35 hours a week

About the Role
The Community Y is seeking an energetic and motivated Recreation Coordinator to
lead and organize recreational programs for youth in our community.
This dynamic role requires an individual who is passionate about sports, youth engagement, and community building. The Recreation Coordinator will be responsible for planning, leading, and facilitating a variety of drop-in sports and recreational activities, including basketball, soccer, volleyball, and more, during evenings and weekends.
Additionally, this role will involve collaborating with our program team to offer diverse activities, including special events like recreation programming at a local park, and taking programming outside to local community basketball courts.
Key Responsibilities
Program Planning & Development
• Design, plan, and organize recreational programs for youth, including sports
like basketball, soccer, volleyball, and other drop-in activities
• Create schedules for programs and events, ensuring a variety of activities
for different age groups and skill levels
Program Leadership & Facilitation
• Lead and facilitate recreational activities and sports programs during
evenings and weekends
• Supervise participants, ensuring a safe and positive environment
• Provide instruction and guidance to enhance engagement and skill development
Community Engagement & Collaboration
• Collaborate with program team members to offer diverse and innovative
recreational opportunities
Event Coordination
• Organize and manage special events such as recreation programs at local parks
and outdoor community basketball games
• Coordinate volunteers, equipment, and facility use
Safety & Risk Management
• Ensure all activities follow safety protocols and guidelines
• Address participant concerns professionally and promptly
Program Promotion & Outreach
• Promote programs through social media, flyers, and community outreach
• Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for youth of all backgrounds
Equipment & Facility Management
• Maintain and organize sports equipment and supplies
• Coordinate use of indoor and outdoor program spaces
Evaluation & Reporting
• Track participation and collect feedback
• Assess program success and prepare reports with recommendations
Youth Development & Mentorship
• Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth
• Act as a role model and mentor to youth participants
Administrative Tasks
• Maintain records of attendance, incidents, and program data
• Assist with budgeting and resource allocation

• Acknowledge members waiting for service and provide support
• Proactively assist members who may need help
• Follow the 5/10 Rule for member engagement
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces
• Tidy common areas and report unresolved issues
• Ensure community rooms are left clean after use
• Perform other duties as required
Education & Skills Qualifications
• Knowledge in teaching or leadership in one or more areas: Children’s
Programming, Events, Recreation, or Sports
• Post-secondary enrollment (Education, Recreation, Kinesiology, Community
Development, or related) is an asset
• Experience working with children and families in outdoor or community
settings
• Event coordination or lesson planning experience is an asset
• Community networking skills
• Strong cross-cultural communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
• Strong attention to detail
• Access to reliable transportation
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills
• First Aid & CPR certification (required)

• Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry

• Completion of Child Safeguarding Training upon hire
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification
