Safety Coordinator
Responsible for health, safety and environmental (HSE) compliance in support of the Aurora Innovations, Eugene, OR and Goshen, NY. soil manufacturing facilities. In cooperation with Hydrofarm functional leadership, implement HSE programs per documented standards and ensure ongoing site compliance and administration of such programs. This position ensures programs comply with all Federal, State, and Local regulations, and well as corporate standards. Using a data-driven approach, conducts assessments against program standards and initiates and leads continuous improvement projects to improve upon HSE metrics and reduce hazards. Success in this role also includes the ability to influence across broad audiences and support the effective cultural changes required to engage all employees in owning and improving HSE performance at the site. The right candidate will possess strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a strong work ethic. This position requires an equal amount of time in an office and on the plant floor. Candidate must not be afraid to get her/his hands dirty.
Specific Responsibilities:
Owns the HSE metric suites and enables ongoing performance improvement across the set of assigned KPIs. Ensures timely and accurate submittal of required reports at requested intervals.
Provides HSE programs leadership and execution for the Aurora Innovations Eugene, OR and Goshen, NY facilities.
Tracks site metrics and uses the data to identify & reduce risk, improve compliance, and continually improve operations.
Owns the report out of HSE metrics at the daily production meeting. Engages the team at that meeting to bring concerns and ideas forward to resolve hazards in the workplace.
Collaborates with site leadership functions and incorporates HSE insights into daily operations, special projects and CAPEX design.
Develops and leads routine and new hire safety trainings.
Actively manages the sites’ Corrective Action / Preventative Action (CAPA) log; coordinates CAPA actions with broader staff to enable timely and effective resolutions.
Leads site specific incident investigations - including verifying root cause and approving the implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
Completes plant walk throughs and inspections; takes ownership for ensuring hazards identified are remediated by partnering with maintenance, production, office and corporate staff.
Participates in Basic Equipment Care (BEC) and other continuous improvement activities.
Maintains current working knowledge of all applicable HSE regulations at local, state and federal level.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Required:
On the job training will be provided for the right candidate, but 3+ experience in the following areas is preferred:
· Leading or participating on a Safety Committee
· Equipment operation
· Manual labor
· Team lead of small or large team
· Independent problem solving, with ability to bring solutions and recommendations to stakeholders for collaborative decision making.
Change agent: demonstrated ability to collaborate with corporate subject matter experts, peers, and production workforce and execute new programs by influencing up/down/across the organization.
Demonstrated understanding of and ability to communicate effectively with regulatory authorities, government officials, major customers and senior executives and support staff within the organization.
Successful leadership and hands-on resolution of HSE issues in a manufacturing environment.
Previous experience related to the enforcement of federal and state regulations (DOT, EPA, OSHA, NRC, etc.)
