The National WWII Museum is currently seeking a Senior Director of Security to administer and manage the security, safety, and risk management programs.  This position is responsible for securing the Museum’s galleries, artifacts, and multi-building complex; prioritizing the safety of all persons (employees, visitors, etc.) on Museum property; and providing assessment, guidance, and implementation of risk management practices for the organization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and manages a full range of security, safety, and fire prevention and protection programs.
  • Chairs and administers the Museum’s Safety Program to include a monthly committee meeting and maintaining the currency of the Museum’s Safety Manual.
  • Chairs and administers the Museum’s Emergency Management Team to include maintaining the currency of the Emergency Management Plan, coordinating the EMT meetings, conducting training exercises, and coordinating emergency operations as it unfolds.
  • Provides the leadership and supervision of the proprietary security team to include recruitment, training, equipping, and discipline of security personnel; retains third party security services as needed.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of security and safety operations.
  • Develops and updates the Security Department Policy & Procedure Manual.
  • Ensures that all weapons detection, fire, safety and security, and surveillance equipment is operational, maintained, and inspected as appropriate.
  • Assesses, recommends, and monitors the need for electronic security / surveillance systems to include installation and operation of these systems.
  • Participates in annual insurance risk assessment audit.
  • Participates in Board Risk Management Committee meetings.
  • Develops and manages the Security Department’s budget.


  • Minimum of five years’ experience at the management level of security in a cultural institution or related environment with demonstrated knowledge of security operations and best practices; federal law enforcement experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of security, emergency planning, investigative techniques, and safety.
  • Experience in technology driven security and environmental safety systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a security staff and be effective interdepartmentally.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement security and safety programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and competent in communication related technology.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with preference for course work in security, criminal justice, safety, or related field.
