Founded in 1965 as part of the War on Poverty, Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) is one of 1,000 community action agencies across the U.S. and 23 in Massachusetts created to address disparities throughout the nation.

Job Description:

In partnership with the CFO, develop financial policies and best practice procedures in the finance department to be implemented agency wide.  Collaborate with Program managers to ensure clear two way understanding of grant requirements and reporting deadlines.  Supervise assigned finance staff and provide coaching and on-going professional development opportunities to meet agency needs.      

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or Finance related field required. Master’s degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a finance department and performing grant fund accounting.  Experience supervising accounting or finance staff preferred.
  • Experience writing policies and procedures that comply with GAAP, ensuring proper controls are in place.
  • Prior Non-Profit, grant funded accounting experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal and effective verbal/written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in excel and accounting software platforms, Abila MIP preferred.
  • Proven successful ability to take concepts from inception to implementation.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • “Right Hand” to CFO and business partner to Senior Management Team.
  • Maintain a professional leadership style, coach, mentor and develop a fully engaged and high performing team that aligns with the strategic vision and initiatives.
  • Supervise the operations of payroll including overseeing the maintenance of payroll records and files in accordance with agency policy and state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Supervise Cash Receipts and perform monthly bank account reconciliations.
  • Monitor the operations of accounts payable/receivables including electronic payments and positive pay system.
  • Assist CFO in production of Monthly Financial Reports, including Balance Sheet and Income Statements.
  • Manage portfolio of grants and contracts.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Help to ensure an accurate and timely quarterly and year end close.
