GENERAL SUMMARY: 

The mission of Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education is to create opportunities for under-resourced youth of the Greater Philadelphia Region to prosper in life. The intended impact is that participating youth will become Snider student-athletes with age-appropriate social-emotional strengths and skills to succeed and contribute as students, employees, and community members.


When students involved in Snider programming graduate from high school, they become Snider alumni. The Alumni Advisor serves as a resource for Snider alumni, supporting them through their young adult journey. Alumni Advisors work with alumni in their transition from high school to postsecondary education and through to their first major professional experience. 


Alumni Advisors play a vital role in spreading our principles of education, responsibility, hard work, and giving back. Advisors will work as part of a team to help support students throughout their educational career and attain their future aspirations. A successful candidate will take pride in mentoring Snider alumni to become productive citizens who pursue postsecondary education and give back to their communities. 

Please note: this is a part-time position.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide educational, financial, and career support for a caseload of approximately 15 Snider alumni.
  • Collect and monitor student data including GPAs, credit loads, scholarships, jobs held, organizations/clubs joined, etc.
  • Help hold students accountable for requirements of the postsecondary scholarships.
  • Individually advise alumni and families to ensure college matriculation, continued success throughout postsecondary education, and career preparation.
  • Assist students with class registration, requirements, etc.
  • Help students apply for scholarships and complete the financial aid process.
  • Assist students and parents with interpreting financial aid packages. 
  • Create a resource-rich environment for alumni and families as it pertains to college information, scholarship opportunities and financial aid processes 
  • Assist with planning and conducting information sessions, campus visits, and other special events. 
  • Be an essential member of the Snider team, which may include, but is not limited to, planning and supporting activities and events. 
  • Occasional travel within the Greater Philadelphia/South Jersey area is required. A flexible work schedule and the ability to occasionally work nights and weekends is required. 
  • This is a remote role. There will be occasional meetings and trainings held in-person at the Snider office in the Olde Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. The vast majority of work will be completed via remote meetings with alumni and other staff.  
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • General knowledge of local colleges, their academic programs, admission policies, and financial policies and procedures.
  • Experience in high school college counseling, OR college admissions, OR academic or financial advising, OR social work, OR caseload management.
  • Experience working with youth aged 17 to 24.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. 
  • Successful applicants must be able to pass the PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

INTELLECTUAL AND SOCIAL DEMANDS:  

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. The position requires constant attention to precise details and specified standards including following simple to complex (more than three steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time.  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee regularly operates a computer and phone. Occasionally local driving in support of work-related projects. Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.  

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

The essential responsibilities of this position are performed remotely, but may include occasional visits to the office and special event sites (indoor/outdoor in the weather conditions prevalent at the time).  The noise level in the work environments can range from moderate to loud during events/programs and is minimal during non-event/program times.   

 

SCHEDULE:  

Most work is completed during after school/evening hours. There may also be opportunities to work standard work hours and/or weekend duties in the Greater Philadelphia area. Hours will vary weekly, based on seasonal student needs and requirements. No specific number of hours is guaranteed each pay period.
