This role is remote within Canada.

The Coconut Software team is looking for a Senior Developer to act as a technical leader to help guide our platform team at Coconut.  Our Platform team acts as the building blocks that product teams use to ship business-facing functionality and enable them  to move faster. You are expected to perform at a high level in rapidly and efficiently building solutions to revolutionize the banking experience at some of the industry leading financial institutions, focussing on iteration, experimentation, and stability. 

  • We don’t need you to be a leading expert in PHP or React but you must be willing to learn as you go, in a fast growing team, and you’ll have our full support on this journey.
  • We innovate on top of a modern solution stack consisting of web technologies (such as React and Laravel) utilizing a RESTful architecture, and backed by relational DBs (MariaDB and PostgreSQL) and deployed using Docker in an AWS environment.
  • You don’t need to have experience in any of our specific technologies: we’re great at teaching good engineers how to use our modern SaaS stack (but experience in Object-Oriented Programming and Web Components is an asset!) 
  • We don't follow rigid Scrum, but we do work in an agile, iterative way, and try to continuously improve and implement what works for us
  • Blameless culture and a continuous improvement mindset

What you’ll be doing:

  • People Leadership:
    • You will be coaching, guiding, and motivating a team of engineers from different backgrounds. This includes coaching & elevating junior and intermediate developers to support their learning & development. 
  • Technical Delivery: 
    • Use your background in full stack development to plan, evaluate, and design all of the elements that make our code successful through the pipeline from local dev to production,  from soup to nuts.
    • You’ll be helping to spearhead major projects for our Platform team to deliver code in a high trust environment using continuous delivery, while ensuring the team has a great delivery cadence and a strong connection with stakeholders (using demos, retros, blameless incident reviews, and the like).
  • Planning and architecture:
    • Ensure the functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and system architecture for each assignment.

What you bring to the team:

  • You have significant experience with success and failure, which helps you make better decisions.
  • Previous experience in a Senior Development role that, included coaching, mentoring, guiding, and motivating engineers (at least 5 years development  experience) 
  • Strong experience in working on major systems in one or more server-side object oriented programming  languages (PHP, Python, Ruby, Go, Rust, Java, C++, NodeJS, etc)
  • Strong experience in working with major front-end technologies (JavaScript, React, Backbone, etc)
  • Having experience with cloud computing infrastructure (AWS) and familiarity with building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines would be helpful but is not required. 
  • Familiarity with Docker &  Kubernetes would be an asset. 
  • Effective at nurturing relationships and managing multiple stakeholders across different teams
