Position Summary

The Production Engineer reports to the Manager, Production Engineering and is responsible for offering technical and operational support to the Photon Control Production Team. The Production Engineer works in close co-operation with the manufacturing operations team and other cross-functional teams to ensure production processes and systems are efficient and effective to enable the organization to meet delivery, lead time and quality objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in failure and root cause analysis investigations (RMA, NCR, FAR, etc.) and, when required, execute effective, practical, controlled corrective action to eliminate future re-occurrence to products and production processes
  • Implement and manage continuous improvement by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices, business processes and ERP systems to eliminate waste and enhance value
  • Assist and train operators in improvement methods such as lean six sigma, 5S, visual management etc
  • Support production operations and staff with direct and timely equipment supervisions for maintenance, verification and calibration
  • Write and edit technical documentation using Engineering Change Order (ECO) process for controlled implementation of changes to released product documentation
  • Assist in development of technical specifications and build-in quality documentation associated with New Product Introduction (NPI) stages including PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow and product / process requirements.
  • Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) reviews on relevant NPI programs with the product development team and feedback best practice for product design and assembly
  • Install and support printer, computer work and test stations
  • Conduct daily inspections and record keeping for infrastructure systems, deionized water, compressed air, and Nitrogen packaging 

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering preferably in Electronics and Mechatronics Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering role
  • Practical experience using root cause analysis, problem solving methodologies, cause and effect 5W&1H, 8D, Fishbone (ishikawa)
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) experience is a must
  • Experience in electronics manufacture / assembly an asset
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma and Green Belt Certification or other continuous improvement methodology
  • Hardware and software capable with Information Technology (IT) systems an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and technical written skills
  • Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines
  • Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often
