Accounting Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Specialist will perform any combination duties that include calculating, posting, and verifying to obtain accurate financial data for use in producing financial statements. This position will require handling accounts payable including processing invoices and contacting vendors, prepare cash and check deposits and enter in the church membership database.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Scan contribution checks into the bank and membership database for contribution credit
  • Count contribution cash and prepare bank deposit. Scan contribution envelopes into membership database and assign credit
  • Update any changes discovered in member records
  • Enter bi-weekly employee payroll tithes in member database
  • Enter credit card payments from legacy system into current membership database
  • Prepare weekly department ministry deposits – count and summarize by general ledger account coding
  • Enter all deposits into the general ledger/bank module
  • Receive and review all check requests from departments for appropriate general ledger account coding, accuracy of submission, proper approvals and generate checks
  • Reconcile vendor statements to the A/P subledger monthly and resolve any discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with W-9 requirements for all vendor set-ups and process annual 1099 forms
  • Review supporting documentation for all electronic payments made and post to the Accounts Payable module
  • Maintain gift card inventory to include the purchase and tracking of each distribution
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of operation are scheduled Monday – Thursday with occasional evenings and weekends as job duties demand.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to do the following:

  • Must have good or corrected vision as well as effective peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Must have good manual dexterity and be able to use repetitive motion of the hands and arms
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to move about inside the office and file rooms to perform a variety of tasks
  • Must be able to frequently and effectively communicate in both written and verbal form
  • Must be able to frequently lift 15 pounds and/or push/pull objects up to 50 pounds
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting department
  • Knowledge of accounting software, Sage Intaact is a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Duties are performed in an office setting where the work and general environment may be fast-paced and hectic at times. Therefore, it is essential that the employee can effectively handle the normal anxieties associated with the job and manage multiple projects in service-oriented environment. Environmental noise levels are minimal.
