BILINGUAL PARENT LIAISON, BEE SMART SUMMER PROGRAM
 
JOBSUMMARY
LivingClassroomsFoundationatMasonvilleCoveishiringaBilingualParentLiaisontofulfillanimportantroleintheBaltimoreEnvironmentalEducationSummerMathAndReadingTrailblazers(BEESMART)program.Theparentliaisonwillcommunicatewithstudents,parents,andotherstaffmembersatmultiplesitestoensurethatstudentsandtheirfamiliesforwhomEnglishisasecondlanguageareincludedandsuccessfulintheprogram.Thispositiongenerallyonlyrequiresafternoonhours–detailsbelow.BilingualParentLiaisonwillneedtoworkselecthoursbeforetheprogrambegins.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
PrimaryResponsibilities

1. TraveltovariousprogramsiteslocatedinSouthBaltimore,sometimesmorethanoneperday
2. Followethicalcodesthatprotecttheconfidentialityofanypersonalinformationwhichmayneedtoberevealedduringinterpretation
3. Listento,understand,andtranslatespokenorwrittenstatementsfromEnglishtoSpanish,andSpanishtoEnglish
4. Proofread,edit,andrevisetranslatedmaterials
5. Respondtophonecalls,emails,andtextmessagesfromtheprogramDirector,immediately,evenduringon-calltime6. Callparents/guardiansonanas-neededbasis,atthespecificrequestoftheprogramDirectororSiteManager(s)

CoordinatedResponsibilities

1. Buildrapportwithstudentsandparents/guardiansduringdailyon-sitetime
2. InterpretduringeveningFamilyEngagementworkshops(twotothreeperyear)
3. AdviseandassistEducatorsinassigningbilingualstudent“buddies”
4. Coachindividualparticipantsandsmallgroupsofstudentsduringinstructionaltime
5. Adapttranslationstostudents’cognitiveandgradelevels
6. CollaboratingwithBEESMARTDirector,SiteManagers,Educators,YouthSpecialistandReadingSpecialistsonadailybasisinordertoensurecohesivestudentserviceseachday
7. AssistEducatorsandReading specialists in their daily tasks as needed, such as implementing reading assessments and logging individual student progress in an accessible language.
8.  Other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications:
  • Fluency in spoken English and Spanish
  • Familiarity with both written English and Spanish
  • Experience in the education field, particularly with 2nd -5th grade students
