Director of Rehabilitation

  1. Reports to the Regional Director of Rehabilitation (RDOR) with a dotted line to the facility Administrator
  2. Supervises and coordinates staff Therapists, Therapy Assistants and Rehab Techs.
  3. Coordinates with therapy contractors, other department heads and participates in facility meetings.
  4. Communicates regularly with the Regional Director of Rehabilitation Services.

  1. Coordinates the overall operations of the rehab department to meet patient needs, the budget, as well as federal and state regulations.
  2. Coordinates the assignment of patients and other responsibilities to staff therapists and therapy contractors in an appropriate manner.
  3. Develops and maintains a personnel filing system for all employees.
  4. Screens, evaluates and treats patients. Assures that patients admitted for treatment receive required therapy services and service delivery is documented appropriately.
  5. Orients, trains and counsels rehab department employees to achieve and maintain a high standard of care.
  6. Involved in the hiring and terminating of department employees according to company protocol jointly with the Regional Director of Rehab and Human Resources as indicated.
  7. Assures compliance with appropriate policies and procedures for the department and facility.
  8. Develops and maintains a medical records system that:
    1. Is accurate and concise.
    2. Meets governmental and third party payer requirements.
    3. Reflects a clear picture of the patient’s problems, the therapist’s intervention and the patient’s outcome.
  9. Develops and maintains administrative record system that provides an accurate record of the number of treatments given and labor incurred.
  10. Communicates and coordinates the rehab departments in a constructive manner that helps build team rapport and effectiveness.
  11. Communicates with Administrator and Regional Director of Rehab/Reimbursement regarding department programs, goals, objectives, problems and successes.
  12. Communicates with the physicians regarding patient problems, progress and department programs.
  13. Communicates to the public and to medical personnel outside the facility regarding the therapy services as indicated.
  14. Participates in:
    1. Community awareness and marketing activities
    2. Facility in-service training programs
    3. Care plan conferences
    4. Daily and Weekly Clinical Case Management Meetings
    5. Department head meetings
    6. Inquiry/admission process
    7. Facility quality assurance meetings
    8. Area Director enhancement meetings
  15. Develops department revenue and control expenditure of funds to meet budgetary requirements.
  16. Sets goals and objectives for the department and implements activities to accomplish them.
  17. Supervises therapy student programs.

  1. Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices):
  2. Mobility (includes walking, good balance), reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to see and hear, ability to read and write, ability to communicate with patients, family members, personnel, and ability to remain calm under stress
  3. Graduate from an accredited program for Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT) or Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) with a Certificate of Clinical Competency.
  4. Current licensure as a therapist in the state of practice.
  5. Management and supervisory skills.
  6. Must be able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
  7. Must possess problem-solving skills of the type and at level necessary to accomplish the job.
  8. Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to relate professionally and positively to patients, patient’s family members, and facility staff.
  9. Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
  10. Must meet all local health regulations and pass post-employment drug screen or physical exam if required.
  11. Must be capable of performing the Responsibilities of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  12. Full-time status preferable.
