We are currently looking for a SITE MANAGER for our BOGS for harvesting Peat Moss. The site is located between 1.5 to 2.5 hours away from Edmonton City. The hamlets within the closest vicinity of these sites are Caslan, Newbrook, Thorhild, Lac La Biche, Boyle, Long Lake and the towns of Athabasca, Smoky Water and Redwater. As we have more than one opening for this position, the actual site the incumbent will be assigned to will be determined at the time of offer.
On a daily basis this person will be responsible for:
- Overseeing site operations and maintaining and improving harvest efficiencies.
- Promote a healthy and safe work environment while ensuring practices align with OHS guidelines and company health and safety policies.
- Supervise, train, coach harvesting crew of approx. 3 full time and 10-12 seasonal employees.
- Operate agricultural equipment such as loaders, harvesters, dozers, tractors, and wagons.
- Promote bog maintenance activities, such as root picking, profiling, and draining.
- Reduces loss of inventory, fire risk, and reduces agricultural degradation.
- Coordinate and plan equipment needs and requirements.
- Collaborate with the management team to ensure reduced downtime, promoting cost reduction and maintaining budgets.
- Administrative duties such as harvest reporting, time sheet approvals, performance reviews, disciplinaries, invoice approvals and coding.
To be able to achieve those responsibilities we are looking for the following characteristics:
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environment.
- Encompassing good communication and leadership skills with the ability to create a positive team environment.
- Time management, problem solving, and ability to work under pressure
- Minimum 3 to 4 years experience in managing a team in a lead or supervisory position
- Solid knowledge of operation of agricultural equipment.
- Knowledge and/or previous experience in peat moss harvesting processes is highly preferred
