Work involves operating equipment and performing manual labor supporting the Landscape crew in the maintenance of operations at a specific facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Assists maintenance operations on facility’s acres and visitor gardens
· Prepare, soil amending, and cultivation of landscape bed(s)
· Install soil and compost
· Edge beds, apply mulch, and provide plant irrigation
· Manual weeding and application of granular pre-emergent herbicide, deadhead flowers
· Perform plant fertilization, mowing, de-littering, and line trimming
· Use various associated power tools
· Complete turf restoration
· Clean up beds in spring and fall
· Perform other duties as required
Education and Experience Required
Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment.
Hours: May – September; 40 hours per week; Monday-Friday
Preferred Experience: Understanding of landscape management activities, conceptual garden design, and water conservation.
Special training or other license, certification,etc.: One (1) year of grounds maintenance experience and understanding of soil science, perennial and woody plant management and identification. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Skills In: Identification of trees, shrubs, native grasses, flowers, and weeds for horticulture aspects of grounds management; safe, proper operation and maintenance of a variety of grounds equipment; performing manual labor tasks; understanding and following verbal or written instructions; maintaining effective working relationships.
