Assistant Controller

Our Corporate head office is currently searching for an Assistant Controller to join our accounting team. The Assistant Controller is responsible for working closely with the Eastern Regional Controller to manage and coordinate the financial administration of the divisions and operations in eastern Canada. The position will ensure the timely preparation of month financial statements, reconciliations, analysis and leading and managing the budget process including special projects. This position will directly supervise 5-7 members of the finance team and will work closely with operational managers.
Position Description:
Ø Leads, manages, and coordinates the overall financial administration of the assigned division(s).
Ø Preparation and submission of monthly financial statements with full analysis and commentary to Senior Staff and the Corporate Accounting Department.
Ø Provide variance analysis on income and expenses as support to the monthly financial Statements.
Ø Maintain accounting records within Business Central.
Ø Maintain and create production/statistical databases/Excel tables.
Ø Prepare and assists Regional Controller with annual audit, budget preparation and forecasts.
Ø Prepare and assist with month end, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and inter-company accounts.
Ø Preparation of municipal invoices and revenue share schedules.
Ø Responsible for daily/monthly bank reports
Ø Provide assistance to Operation Managers as required to increase profitability of the division(s)/company.
Ø Preparation of HST and Stats Canada reports
Ø Delegating tasks to ensure proper workflow and efficiency
Ø Oversee and provides guidance to staff, establishing goals and objectives for staff and ensuring their performance meets the expectation
Ø Assessing staff performance and providing performance reviews
Ø Monitor staff productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching
Ø Address staff concerns and problems, motivate and maintain team moral
Ø Provide training to team and new staff
Ø Maintain/oversee timely vendor invoice processing and perform/oversee customer collections.
Ø Maintain positive relationships with all staff, vendors, clients and municipal government contacts.
Ø Maintain and create production/statistical databases/Excel tables.
Ø Ad Hoc reporting
Ø Performs other related duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications:
Ø Final year of CPA studies or CPA designation.
Ø Minimum 7-10 years of experience in working in fast paced, deadline driven accounting environment.
Ø Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
Ø Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
Ø Experience overseeing daily activities and following up on results
Ø Excellent proficiency with productivity software, MS Office Suite, particularly Excel. (say advanced skills)
Ø Strong skills in using accounting software applications (Business Central, RTA Fleet Management Software, Navusoft or Materials Manager would be an asset)
Ø Strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills to function in a deadline driven environment.
Ø Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with employees at various levels of the organization.
Ø Strong ability to motivate and develop staff.
