The Manufacturing Operations (Plant) Manager is responsible day to day operations of the entire manufacturing facility to include safety, quality, production, maintenance, continuous improvement, and supply chain efficiencies.  The role includes the creation and execution of strategic plans that ensure that production goals are met in the most cost-effective manner while delivering against expected financial, commercial and KPI metrics.  This position requires an out-in-front leader who loves to make things better for their employees while leading organizational change in a positive and productive way. The Operations Manager works directly with department heads to coordinate purchasing, production, and distribution operations

Key accountabilities include:

  • Drive a culture of high performance and accountability, specifically with respect to employee, product and environmental safety.  Models safety standards and holds site accountable to world class safety programs and policies.
  • Ensures local, regional and national regulatory compliance for the plant.
  • Manage overall plant operations and on-site teams; including production, shipping, receiving, inventory, warehouse, and maintenance.  Advocate and leader of efficient operations, monitoring performance to ensure effective operations.
  • Audit processes and production based on SOPs and evolving requirements; including creating and/or updating SOPs to meet the changing requirements.
  • Overseeing raw materials purchasing and production scheduling process to ensure customer requirements are satisfied.  Create value through the timely execution of production schedules to meet company and customer requirements.
  • Coach and develop leaders and teams. Manage performance through proactive coaching and direction in support of both efficient plant operations and individual development plans.
  • Facilitate the establishment of best practices for each area to control costs, improve performance, and deliver consistent and predictable results.
  • Review performance metrics and recommend and implement improvements.  Strong and demonstrable history of driving continuous improvement efforts through structured LEAN practices and methodologies.
  • As a key stakeholder, support the demand and supply planning / S&OP process.
  • Work with functional departments to make improvements in all facets of the organization, including safety, quality, purchasing, finance, compliance, engineering, regulatory affairs, and human resources.
  • Partners with finance to create and deliver against annual budget requirements
  • Maintains contact with sales department and customer service to effectively meet and maximize utilization of plant facilities.

Job Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or commensurate experience.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in an operations management level role in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated leadership skills strongly preferred.  10+ years manufacturing leadership experience preferred.
  • Collaborative demeanor; history of working well with employees, peers, senior leadership team, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Six Sigma, Lean, and/or Kaizen experience preferred.
  • Change management experience is required.
  • Computer usage and typing skills are required.  ERP system experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary leadership.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
