Research Assistant

Arab American Family Support Center Brooklyn, NY $55000.00 per year

JOB TITLE: Research Assistant

REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Resource Development & Impact Evaluation

To all prospective applicants please be aware, effective Friday, September 10, 2021, The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) will require that all employees, volunteers, and onsite contractors provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.

The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization established in 1994 to provide culturally and linguistically competent, trauma-informed social services. Across our ten locations, we empower immigrants and refugees with the tools they need to successfully acclimate to the world around them and become active participants in the community. While we support anyone who walks through our doors, over nearly 25 years, we have developed expertise in serving the Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (AMEMSA) immigrant and refugee communities.

AAFSC works across four priority areas—Promote, Get Ready, Prevent, and Communicate—to achieve our ultimate goal of strengthening families. AAFSC promotes mental and physical wellbeing, food security, healthy relationships, and family reunification. We get our families ready to succeed, work, and lead productive lives. We prevent domestic violence, child abuse, and neglect by counseling families, offering case management services to victims of violence, and cultivating healthy relationship skills in young people. Finally, AAFSC communicates the needs of the marginalized, amplifying their voices for increased impact.

AAFSC is seeking a Research Assistant to support our emerging Research Institute initiative. The Research Assistant will work within the Resource Development team and play a key role in supporting the growth of our research and communication activities while helping to tell the story of AMEMSA immigrant and refugee communities through data and research. This individual will report to the Director of Resource Development and Impact Evaluation and provide direct support conducting background research, drafting reports and summaries, synthesizing data, conducting interviews and focus groups, and supporting our external communication efforts. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply research practices in a non-profit, culturally-responsive, and mission-driven organization while contributing to the expansion of research activities that document and communicate the experiences of traditionally undercounted and underrepresented groups.  A successful person in this role will have a background in research (academic or professional), demonstrate strong writing and presentation skills, and be comfortable taking initiative and solving problems creatively. A commitment to immigrant, refugee, and low-income communities is essential for this role.
