Grants Specialist
Under the direction of the Director of Development, the Grants Specialist is responsible for supporting Main Street Project’s upcoming major renovations by researching, developing and submitting applications, building stakeholder relations and project managing the grant funding life cycle from start to finish.
The Grants Specialist is part of the Development team and plays a key role in an exciting major capital campaign currently in the planning stages.
The ideal candidate should be flexible, extremely organized with a background in project coordination, research, writing, capital projects and government funded projects.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research and document all current grant programs Main Street Project is eligible for.
- Ensure grants are budgeted and managed effectively.
- Manage a collection of background documents and information required for applications.
- Complete comprehensive research to support grant applications.
- Coordinate calls with current and potential funders to stay apprised of emerging opportunities.
- Keep current funders up-to-date and engaged with projects.
- Work with campaign team to meet all funding reporting requirements.
- Host tours, attend events to build government and stakeholder relations.
- Assist with the organization of special programs, initiatives and events.
- Help coordinate and facilitate community consultations and open houses on projects.
- Communicate and build relationships with community members, donors, coworkers and volunteers in a positive and responsive way.
- Maintain productivity standards and practices, effective time management and prioritization of work.
Complete applications for various grants. The quantity of writing and types of information required will vary for each application
Monitor and ensure grant compliance with all relevant regulations and granting criteria.
- Experience in a relevant field or familiar through post secondary education in research, fact checking, writing documentation and validating information.
- Knowledge of project planning and implementation.
- Skilled communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to professionally communicate with diverse individuals.
- Proven ability to manage numerous tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Comfortable building relationships with community, coworkers, donors, volunteers.
- Motivated, self-starting, detail-oriented and exceptional organization and time management skills. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Experience supporting fundraising initiatives or capital campaigns or similar an asset.
- Ability to work varying hours to accommodate committee meetings, special events, etc.
- Post-Secondary degree or diploma; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- 3-5 years of experience in grant management and administration, especially within nonprofit sector, is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Excel and other MS programs is essential.
- Knowledge of the effects of poverty and the social determinants of health is essential.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture.
- Demonstrated knowledge of harm reduction, trauma informed approaches and anti-oppressive frameworks.
- Knowledge of the principles of the TRC Calls to Action, MMIWG Calls to Justice, and UNDRIP.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record with clear Vulnerable Sector Search, and a clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required.
