Overview
Rowing Dock is looking for a paid marketing intern to add to their small, but mighty family! The intern will support the marketing director with all communication efforts for the business, helping to continue to raise awareness and brand recognition for Rowing Dock through a variety of tactics, included but not limited to social media outreach, advertising, event and partnership outreach, and public relations efforts. Key responsibilities are outlined below. This opportunity will include a mixture of remote work and in-person work at Rowing Dock.

  • You love spending time in the outdoors, whether that be through working out, hanging out with friends or spending time engraining yourself in nature
  • You’ve been paddling before and enjoy it – whether it be kayaking, canoeing or stand up paddle boarding
  • You are passionate, curious and eager to learn more about all things marketing
  • You consider yourself proactive and a go-getter
  • You are ego-less and can wear multiple hats (Rowing Dock is a small but mighty team, and we’re looking for someone who is able to jump in and pivot based on the evolving needs of the team)

  • You have very strong written and verbal communication skills
  • You like conceptualizing new ideas and presenting them
  • You don’t mind the Texas heat (you will be working in our office located at Rowing Dock at times. We have air conditioning but you could also be required to be outside interacting with customers for some elements of your job.)

Qualifications

  • This paid internship is ideal for rising college seniors, recent grads or those looking for a career change
  • Work can range between 10-20 hours a week depending on season on workflow
  • Open to exploring a long-term internship (five months est.) with the option to be hired on as a marketing coordinator  

Pay

  • $15-$20/hour based on experience

Key Responsibilities

Earned Media Outreach / Event Outreach

  • Media mailers: concept and develop creative, fun and on-brand media mailers for media and influencer outreach
  • Build out media list, with focus on identifying reporters/influencers who are likely to be interested in Rowing Dock (e.g. they recently wrote the top 10 outdoor activities in Austin, etc.)
  • As needed, assist marketing director with outreach to media outlets to promote new initiatives and to promote new events

Advertising Research

  • Support marketing developer through research of unique, outside-the-box advertising tactics and placements Rowing Dock should consider
  • Once advertising placements are secured, lead the content development and recommendations for creative that should be used (with approval from MD)

Social Media Strategy / Content Creation and Development

  • Strategy
    • Partner with marketing director to build out and finalize social strategy to align with brand mission, vision, goals, and new brand initiatives
  • Content Development
    • Develop weekly IG/FB and Google Business content calendar that aligns to strategy (includes development of copy, and asset recommendations)
    • Send weekly content calendar to marketing director for review, feedback and approval; schedule posts to go live on brand channels
    • In real-time: capture real-life moments happening at the dock and post to IG stories (example: new merch hits shelves, guided tour kickoff, cute customer dog, customer snapshots on dock!)
  • Creative
    • Research social media trends that could align well with brand presence and tie to promotional strategy
  • Tik Tok
    • Create content calendar and take lead on content creation
  • Future Goal: Manage customer feedback/questions on social channels (Google Business, FB, IG). Customer questions should be responded to in timely manner (1-2 hours during business hours)  

Influencer

  • Partner with marketing director on development of influencer strategy
  • Conduct research to find, present, and secure influencers to add to brand ambassador team for Rowing Dock
  • Provide suggested feedback/edits to existing influencer content recommendations 

Photo and Video shoots

  • Draft photoshoot and video shoot overview documents to provide appropriate direction to photographers/videographers. Documents to include objective, schedule/timeline, scene direction, and shot lists
  • Conduct outreach to potential “real life” models on Instagram to be added to RD roster of models to include in photoshoot/video shoots
  • Formalize list of “real life” models so that we can use as foundation for future shoots
  • Assist with on-site photoshoots, acting as account manager on-site and ensuring photographer/videographer has what they need to be successful

All content produced for Rowing Dock and while getting paid by Rowing Dock is the property and ownership of the brand. Rowing Dock owns rights to all images, videos, presentations, decks, and any other deliverables/materials developed while on the job. Upon approval, material developed while at Rowing Dock can be used for individual’s own promotional purposes (as a part of their portfolio, website, etc.).
