Grants and Proposals Coordinator

The Grant and Proposal Coordinator is an important part of the Development team at First United and plays a key role in the growth of the organization. The ideal candidate is motivated, deadline-driven, a clear and succinct writer, and likes working as part of a supportive and collaborative team. The Grants and Proposal Coordinator will have the opportunity to manage their own portfolio of funders and corporate partners, write reports and applications, and cultivate relationships with long-term funders and new funders alike. As First United moves through its transition years while we redevelop our site into a new purpose-built facility, the Grant and Proposal Coordinator will have the unique opportunity to grow the portfolio and pursue new opportunities that will shape the long-term health of the organization. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for the funder engagement cycle and building relationships with key funders
• Source relevant grants, write application submissions in order to procure these grants within deadline, maintain accurate records of our interactions with funders, and work with staff regarding grants for program and capital campaign funding.
• Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grants and proposals
• Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
• Work with finance and program staff to gather information necessary to report to funders, donors, and corporate partners on current programs.
• Comply with all grant reporting as required
• Provide stewardship to current funders, including regular written updates (newsletters etc.) to corporate partners, foundations, and donors.
• Understanding of institutional history and programs.
• Convene meetings with senior leadership, foundation officers and other prospects, for onsite tours for supporters (foundation officers, foundation trustees).
• Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
• Assist refining ways to capture program metrics to use for evaluating impact and to use data for fundraising communications and solicitation strategies
• Track statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship (visitor number and diversity, program attendance & metrics, grant-specific data, etc).
• Work with finance team to create financial reporting that aligns with Development department
• Assist with other fundraising projects as requested
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals
• Strong editing skills
• Attention to detail
• Able to monitor and meet revenue goals
• Knowledge of fundraising information sources
• Understanding of organizational budgeting and the ability to tailor program expense budgets for individual grants
• Strong computer skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office programs, Raiser’s Edge, online application portals, and government reporting sites.
• Experience with grant writing and managing grant applications for a range of funders, or experience writing corporate and/or major gift proposals
• Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
• Knowledge and familiarity with fundraising prospect research.
• Ability to work independently, seeking guidance and feedback from supervisor, the Executive Director and other colleagues
• Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• Post-secondary degree in a related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years’ experience with grant or proposal writing.
• Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
• Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Latitude: The incumbent works closely with the Associate Director of Development to develop work plans and strategic priorities. Otherwise works independently consulting as needed with leadership and other team members to respond to staff needs and program objectives.
Regular communication is maintained with all levels of staff and management regarding grant-funded work.
• Director of Programs and Director of Community of Ministry: Coordinate needs for planning, writing, reviewing, and reporting on grant applications
• Development Team: works collaboratively and maintains regular contact with other Development staff
• Finance Staff: Work with finance to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
• External relationships: acts as the primary contact for funders and grantors, may have some relationship management with corporate partners and major donors

Wage Range: $50,349 - $58,636 (based on union seniority)
