AmeriCorps/CarbonCorps Seeking Community-Based Youth Advocate {2022-2023}

This role provides an opportunity to be a change agent working towards closing the achievement gap and removing barriers to thriving for youth. Children/teens are at the heart of our work and Mentors will help youth set goals, develop self-confidence and character, build leadership skills and provide access to external supports. Our program partners with community based non-profits to identify youth who would benefit from a positive, adult role model that can give targeted social and emotional support as well as mentor youth to be their best. Mentors will also learn about and build partnerships with community resources to assist their mentees and families.

The objective of the program is to provide inclusive mentorship support to children/teens who are at risk for negative outcomes. Participants will be identified through a holistic process which encompasses school outcomes, support network, and level of need. Mentors will assist economically disadvantaged children/teens in overcoming barriers such as behavioral challenges and limited access to resources. Members will have recurring access to vulnerable populations. Mentors will be assigned youth to follow throughout their program participation and will involve 1:1 meetings as well as small group as needed.

While serving, Members earn a living stipend dispersed twice monthly as well as an education award at the end of successful service.
