United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) seeks an enthusiastic, independent, and professional community based mentor for an exciting AmeriCorps program. An AmeriCorps assignment is a service position that is grant funded and lasts until the end of the school year.
This AmeriCorps member will be placed in an elementary school in Allentown to support students with school attendance challenges. Our main program goals revolve around education and mentoring. Members will be placed directly with an elementary school that includes a learning support component where they work with groups of students or one on one throughout the day.
- mentor utilizing an evidence based curriculum to create and lead SEL (social, emotional, learning) sessions with students
- communicate regularly with parents and caregivers regarding community resources, school attendance, and progress.
Students may be supported in person or via virtual mediums.
The service term is October 2021 - June 2022
AmeriCorps members earn a living stipend based on their service term hours and upon successful completion of of their term, they are eligible for an educational award that can be applied toward student loans or further educational expenses.
