Role Description
The Interior Designer is responsible for developing and executing VIP aircraft interior designs from initial concept through aircraft completion and delivery. This position provides in-house design expertise utilizing interior design software, technical drawing practices, material knowledge, and classical design principles to develop interior solutions that meet customer expectations, production requirements, and applicable aircraft completion standards.
The Interior Designer works closely with the Chief Designer, Sales, Program Management, Engineering, Procurement, Production, vendors, and customers to develop design concepts, define materials and finishes, produce technical design documentation, and support the successful completion of assigned aircraft. This position is expected to work independently on assigned design responsibilities while supporting the overall design direction established by the Chief Designer.
Essential Job Functions
· Support Sales and Program Management during pre- and post-contract phases by providing configuration definition, material specifications, design research, and other design information required to support customer proposals and aircraft completion planning.
· Participate in customer and internal design review activities with both internal and external customers.
· Support Sales and Program Management in the development of customer proposals, contracts, design concepts, and presentation materials.
· Read, interpret, and create aircraft mechanical and interior design drawings to support VIP aircraft completion programs.
· Develop computer-generated drawings and design documentation supporting Sales, Engineering, and Production, interior elevations, Design Control Drawings, and Detailed Design Definition Packages.
· Develop interior design concepts, material schemes, and finish selections that align with customer requirements, approved design direction, aircraft configuration, and production capabilities.
· Apply knowledge of interior materials, soft goods, finishes, and material composition to support design decisions and ensure materials are appropriate for aircraft application and applicable burn test requirements.
· Support aircraft completion activities from induction through delivery, including finalizing design documentation based on customer approvals and incorporating approved design changes throughout the completion process.
· Define and maintain final material specifications, finishes, quantities, and supporting documentation based on approved customer designs.
· Interface with vendors and suppliers regarding aircraft component definition, materials, finishes, and other design requirements.
· Partner with Engineering and Production to resolve design and material-related issues and ensure design intent can be effectively translated into production and aircraft installation.
· Maintain design documentation throughout the aircraft build to ensure the completed aircraft reflects the approved customer design.
· Support First Article Inspections and other production quality activities to verify that completed components and installations conform to approved design requirements.
· Maintain and update the Material Finish Document (MFD) and other applicable design documentation throughout the aircraft completion process.
· Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external vendors to support design execution, material sourcing, and component development.
· Maintain the department's material and sample library, including customer-approved material samples, reference materials, presentation boards, and design resources.
· Support customer presentations, photo shoots, reference materials, and development of ready-to-present design schemes.
· Remain current on aircraft interior materials, design trends, manufacturing capabilities, and applicable aircraft completion requirements.
· Provide guidance and technical support to Associate Interior Designers on assigned projects and design activities.
· Support continuous improvement of design processes, documentation, material management, and design-to-production workflows.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
· Associate's degree in Interior Design, Industrial Design, or a related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate or VIP aircraft completions, interior design, product design, or a closely related design environment.
· Demonstrated experience in product design, development, fabrication, and production environments.
· Proven proficiency with computer-aided design and drafting programs; AutoCAD proficiency required.
· Demonstrated knowledge of aircraft interior materials, soft goods, finishes, and material specifications.
· Working knowledge of aircraft mechanical and interior drawings and the ability to interpret technical design documentation.
· General understanding of supply chain processes, vendor relationships, and material procurement.
Required Skills and Abilities
· Proficiency with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
· Strong understanding of interior design principles, color, materials, finishes, and design composition.
· Ability to develop cohesive material and finish schemes for VIP aircraft interiors.
· Ability to translate customer concepts and design requirements into accurate technical drawings and production documentation.
· Ability to read, interpret, and create aircraft mechanical and interior design drawings.
· Strong understanding of the relationship between design intent, engineering requirements, manufacturing processes, and aircraft installation.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, vendors, designers, engineers, production personnel, and other stakeholders.
· Ability to communicate technical and design-related issues in an assertive, professional, and tactful manner.
· Strong verbal, written, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple aircraft programs, projects, and priorities simultaneously.
· Strong time-management and prioritization skills with the ability to meet demanding aircraft completion schedules.

· Valid passport and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Work Environment
This position is based in an aircraft hangar environment and may involve:
· Exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions
· Loud noise levels
· Use of heavy machinery and specialized tools
· Potential contact with chemicals or hazardous materials
· Working in confined aircraft interior spaces
