Structural Steel Detailer (CAD - SDS/2 - Tekla - BIM)

Our structural engineering and steel detailing firm is growing and in need of an experienced structural steel detailer to join our high-quality team of design professionals. Located in one of the nation’s fastest-growing commercial markets, Las Vegas, NV., Connected Structural Group offers our clients full-service structural engineering and steel detailing services. Our in-house team of design professionals includes structural engineers, steel connection designers, detailers and checkers with each being a key contributor to the overall design process. Using the highest standards of software technology allows us to take on any structural design project, executing effective systems and procedures to deliver on-time, accurate shop drawings, and structural models.

We are interested in hearing from:

• Experienced detailers and checkers.
• Engineers seeking to be steel designers and detailers.
• BIM modeling experts experienced in a variety of BIM packages, including SDS/2, Revit, Tekla, Advanced Steel, AutoCAD, and Navisworks

Responsibilities and duties:
If offered the position, qualified applicants will be asked to produce erection and shop fabrication drawings for steel members using Tekla and/or SDS/2, while working closely with a project manager and other detailers.

• Modeling in 3D software (SDS/2 or Tekla)
• Proficient in Steel Detailing Software
• Produce 2D shop drawings, erection plans, and field details
• Coordinate with joist & deck drawings
• Implement AISC and OSHA requirements for fabrication and erection
• Work with multiple fabricators and their standards
• Understand and utilize the standard practices of the steel industry
• Read and interpret structural and architectural contract documents
• Write and interpret RFIs
• Work with in house engineers and project managers
• Determine changes and revisions to report cost impact to project managers

Qualifications and skills:
As a steel detailer, you need qualifications in 3D design, computer-aided drafting software, and general construction knowledge or structural engineering:

• 2+ year’s steel detailing/design experience preferred
• Proficiency in mathematics and geometry
• Ability to read structural and architectural drawings
• Ability to read and write Requests For Information (RFI)
• Possess general knowledge of steel construction
• Tekla and/or SDS/2 experience is strongly preferred
• Basic engineering skills are an advantage for the candidate
• Problem solver willing to work in a collaborative team environment
• Good verbal and written communication with peers and customers
• Experience with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook preferred
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
• No contract work, oversees, or outsourcing
• Must be in or willing to relocate to the Las Vegas area
