St. James Parish is hiring a Part-Time Recreational Park Custodian under the Operations Department. 

JOB FUNCTION:  To perform routine manual tasks in maintaining the cleanliness, sanitary conditions and appearance of St. James Parish Recreational Parks.  This is a part-time nonexempt position, 20 hours per week.  This employee may be required to work weekends to open and close recreational parks.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Includes any combination of the following illustrative examples of duties and responsibilities including but not limited to:

 ·         Cleans bathrooms and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and polishing      

·         Empties and decontaminates trash containers

·         Sweeps sidewalks, porches and tiled surfaces

·         Picks up, collects and disposes of trash, garbage, litter and debris

·         Unlock and lock facility before and after events

·         Notifies Recreation Administrator of maintenance needs for building(s) or park equipment

·         Requisitions cleaning supplies

·         Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.       

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  High School diploma or general education diploma (GED) and 6 months related experience and/or training.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, and divide in all units of measurement; using whole numbers.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to define common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:  None required. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·         Knowledge of the operating procedures and maintenance of equipment operated

·         General knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety rules and regulations in equipment operation

·         Ability to perform physical labor required of the position

·         Ability to identify operating problems of equipment assigned

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, extreme heat/cold, near moving mechanical parts, and is regularly exposed to vibration.  The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
