6th Grade ELA Teacher – St. Joseph Elementary School
Position SummarySt. Joseph Elementary School is seeking a faith-filled, dedicated, and knowledgeable 6th Grade English Language Arts Teacher to join our school community. The ideal candidate will foster academic excellence, uphold Catholic values, and create a supportive classroom environment that encourages students to grow intellectually, spiritually, socially, and emotionally. The teacher will provide engaging ELA instruction while helping students develop strong reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills within a faith-based learning environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver engaging, standards-based English Language Arts instruction for 6th grade students.
Create a positive, structured, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Assess student progress regularly and communicate effectively with families regarding performance and growth.
Integrate technology and innovative teaching strategies into daily instruction.
Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
Collaborate with faculty and administration to support school goals and student success.
Support and participate in school liturgies, prayer experiences, and Catholic mission activities.
Maintain accurate records, lesson plans, grades, and attendance.
Model Christian values and professionalism in all interactions.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as required.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or related field required.
Valid Louisiana teaching certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
Prior teaching experience, especially in upper elementary or middle school ELA, preferred.
Strong classroom management and communication skills.
Commitment to academic excellence and student-centered learning.
Willingness to support the Catholic identity and mission of the school.
Practicing Catholic preferred, but all qualified candidates committed to the mission are encouraged to apply.
Experience teaching middle school English Language Arts.
Knowledge of Louisiana state standards and curriculum expectations.
Familiarity with educational technology platforms and data-driven instruction.
Ability to foster a love of reading and writing among students.
