Since 1999, WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease has been the nation’s only patient-centered organization solely devoted to advancing women’s heart health through patient support, community education, and advocacy.

Position Summary

The Manager, Volunteer Programs is responsible for day-to-day management and oversight of WomenHeart’s volunteer and membership programs, including WomenHeart Champions (volunteers who are living with heart disease and have been trained by WomenHeart to run support groups and be community educators). She/he/they will take a proactive leadership role in overseeing WomenHeart’s training program for WomenHeart Champions, developing effective measurement and evaluation strategies, identifying trends in volunteer needs and making informed recommendations (proposals and work plans) for how the team and organization can better meet the needs and support WomenHeart volunteers.

This position is based in Washington, DC (preferred) and will report to the VP, Advocacy & Communications. Remote candidates will be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities

Programs Management
• Manage project timelines and ensures tasks and goals are met
Serve as project manager and liaison on funded volunteer-related programs and projects, including contributing to the development of funded project reports and summaries
Develop and oversee the implementation of evaluation mechanisms to track activity, participation  and effectiveness of volunteer program 
Oversee the development and execution of training programs for WomenHeart Champions, including working with faculty leaders at the Mayo Clinic 
Provide content and statistics for program proposals and summary reports for internal and external purposes
Manage additional aspects of the volunteer program, such as HeartScarves, SisterMatch, and online support
All other duties as assigned

WomenHeart Champions
Develop and/or update WomenHeart Champion training programs, as well as other volunteer participation programs, by researching volunteer need(s) and/or models from other organizations; drafting documents/work plans, and implementation once developed
Provide stewardship and tracking of WomenHeart Champions and members
Identify potential opportunities for collaboration with or entrée into national organizations, corporations, local or regional events to best leverage WomenHeart Champion volunteers
Ensure that volunteers are engaged and motivated through the creation and promotion of new program packages for WomenHeart Champion volunteers to utilize in their communities (“Events in a Box” e.g. WomenHeart@Work)
Manage the Red Bag of Courage® program. Oversees the production of both the English and Spanish Red Bag of Courage®, identifying educational items to include and strategizing and implementing tracking mechanisms for distribution
Oversee, manage and direct a leadership council of District Leaders to ensure WomenHeart Champions are supported and engaged at the community level
Manage and coordinate the program development and logistical planning, execution, and evaluation of the annual Science & Leadership Symposium
Ensure weekly communication to WomenHeart Champions providing updates on WomenHeart programs and upcoming activities

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and/or at least five years of relevant experience in volunteer management or program management. An advanced degree and experience with patient advocacy or public health is a plus. Candidate must be highly organized, is able to work in a team, be flexible in working on other projects as needed with all members of the staff, be comfortable working virtually and flexible to work weekends and evenings where needed, must be available to travel out of state (per all public health guidelines), and have experience engaging with diverse audiences.

Must have a bachelor’s degree and 4-5 years of experience, advanced degree preferred
Must have leadership experience working with a team and/or volunteer force
Must be highly organized and have a professional demeanor
Must be comfortable communicating and corresponding with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
Advanced communication skills both verbal and written are a must
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft platform (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
Must be a self-starter with the ability to think critically and solve problems independently
Must be available to travel out of state

Compensation
The salary range is $55,000-$65,000, based on experience.
