Organization Overview: Living Classrooms Foundation strengthens communities and inspires young people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training; using urban, natural, and maritime resources as "living classrooms."

Target Investment Zone (TIZ) Overview: Living Classrooms Foundation is investing our three decades of experience and success in serving youth and families in Baltimore into a long-term strategic initiative, the Baltimore Target Investment Zone. This comprehensive community development initiative, launched in 2007, was created to disrupt the cycle of generational poverty in East Baltimore. The TIZ serves some of Baltimore's most disadvantaged areas including the Fayette Street corridor and Pleasant View Gardens; Perkins, Douglass, and Latrobe Homes; Oldtown/Middle East, McElderry Park, and neighborhoods around Hopkins Medical Campus and Patterson Park. These communities have suffered from decades of low educational achievement, high poverty, unemployment, high crime and recidivism rates, gang activity, and chronic health problems.

Essential Responsibilities:

A.    Program Management and Leadership

·       Create and foster a positive learning and working environment for the children, youth, families, staff, and community partners that utilize and work within Living Classrooms Youth Development Programming and the Target Investment Zone.

·       Oversee and manage all staff within eight various youth development initiatives.

o   Regularly monitor staff performance with biweekly one-to-one meetings for individual updates and immediate feedback; provide coaching and corrective support to staff as needed.

o   Outline roles and responsibilities of support staff. 

o   Appropriately document personnel actions and decisions.

·       Oversee all administrative duties.

·       Ensure safety and quality throughout all facilities and programming.

·       Provide leadership on continuous quality improvement efforts; using data to analyze and plan programming, identify trends, and improve quality and efficiency of service delivery.

B.    Communication:

·       Weekly check-ins with Directors

·       Monthly whole group meetings

·       Meet bi-weekly with direct reports to ensure program quality

C.    Program Planning:

·       Provide thought leadership and vision to direct reports for existing initiatives and seek additional value add partnerships

D.    Fiscal Oversight

·       Oversee day-to-day operations; including all fiscal, grant and contractual related obligations and decisions for all youth development sites and initiatives

·       Assist administrator in maintaining accurate spend down sheets, including expenses and funding streams.

·       Work with the Vice President of Development to identify and cultivate potential funding sources.

·       Communicate monthly with Development, Communications and CEO to provide programmatic data, information, and any important updates.

E.     Perform other duties as required


·       Master’s Degree preferred

·       Highly organized with excellent follow-though; systematic planner; receptive to feedback.

·       Experience managing a staff of 6 or more.

·       Experience working as part of a collaborative, accountable team.

·       Must enjoy working with youth and families of all ages.

  • Must have basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Some travel and training required as needed.
  • Must be reliable.
