HOPE FOR VETERANS PROGRAM

We are looking for a full-time Veteran Housing Outreach Specialist to conduct outreach in the community serving veterans and/or their families in order to increase referrals to our Hope for Veterans Program (HVP), Alfred J. Thomas Home for Veterans (AJT), and Women’s Veteran Housing (VWH).  This position conducts street outreach and works closely with other community providers to identify veterans in need of services. 

 Outreach & Marketing

  • Provides optimal customer service as the first point of contact for veterans and their families.
  • Identify community service providers, public agencies, veterans’ organizations, and veteran service organizations.
  • Conduct meetings and outreach to these and other resources to establish referrals to and increase community awareness of the HVP, AJT and VWH Programs.
  • Outreaches to encampments, under bridges, outdoors, in shelters, Stand Downs, soup kitchens, houses of worship, or other places where the homeless congregate.
  • Develops rapport with Veterans to facilitate the enrollment of eligible referrals.
  • Conducts street sweeps when necessary to identify and outreach homeless Veterans/Veteran families.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with referral sources.
  • Collaborates with other social service agencies to assist with homeless veteran outreach efforts.
  • Participates in marketing activities to increase public awareness our veteran programs.
  • Represent the Community Hope’s Veteran Housing Programs at conferences, community, and outreach events, which may include some evening and weekend hours.
  • Provide input and feedback on effect of marketing efforts “from the field”.
  • Attend County Continuum of Care, Stakeholder, and other relevant meetings in the community to market program, which includes presentations to stakeholders and interested parties.
  • Represent the HVP program at conferences, community, and outreach events, which may include some evening and weekend hours.
  • Maintaining a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities.

 Referrals & Screening

  • Uphold the highest ethical and professional standards in adherence with our Code of Conduct & Ethics.  Maintains veteran confidentiality in all interactions with other residents and in accordance with Agency privacy policies.
  • Support veterans in their recovery by coordinating the referral and admissions process and ensuring a smooth and engaging entry into the program.
  • Maintains referral data and required reporting including the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), census spreadsheets, and utilization reports.
  • Function as a team member including emergency shift coverage, facilitating educational groups, participating in program activities, communicating all relevant information to other team members, covering co-workers’ duties as needed.
  • Participates as a team member in the maintenance, care, and safety of the facility.
  • Participates in team, residence, supervision, and training meetings.
  • Transports veterans in agency vehicles in a safe, cautious and responsible manner.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Veteran Housing Director and Senior Leadership.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mental Health or a related discipline or equivalent and 1 year of related mental health or substance experience.
  • Knowledge of veterans’ issues, mental illness, addiction, and/or homelessness required.
  • Military experience or experience working with veterans preferred;
  • Bilingual preferred.
