Do you have commercial kitchen experience and want to make a difference in the lives of clients who are actively participating in programs? Help us meet the needs of the Red Deer community by joining our Food Services team. The Mustard Seed is committed to helping people who are homeless transition toward and maintain sustainable and healthy lifestyles.  Reporting to the Director of Operations, as a food services relief staff you will pick up shifts on an as needed basis including evening and weekends. You, formally trained in Food Services or having a minimum of three years experience in a commercial kitchen environment will share the responsibilities in the kitchen between prepping, cooking, serving, stocking, and cleaning.

We need you to participate in the delivery of a healthy and nutritious meal program, including preparation and serving of meals in person or via pickups.  You must be willing to ensure health and safety standards are met and so cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen is key as is the ability to support the all the procedures, standards, and policies of the Environmental Health Services guidelines regarding how food is prepared, handled, and stored.

  • Good organizational skills are a necessity for menu planning, staff scheduling, food ordering and planning special events
  • Must have an Alberta Health Services Food Safety Certification or be willing to be trained and complete course
  • Be willing to take any necessary training the Mustard Seed requires – NVCI, First Aid
  • Experience providing direction, supervision, and training to volunteers is a strong asset
  • Computer skills are needed Email and data entry are important for tracking
  • A valid driver’s license is an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to lift 20lbs, standing, reaching, lifting, and walking will be required as part of this role
  • An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for any employer
  • To support our staff and the vulnerable population we serve, we require new hires to have COVID-19 vaccination
