DER Solutions Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to design and engineer our Distributed Energy Resources (DER) projects who has exceptional communication skills and is committed to enabling the clean energy transition. Rodan DER is an emerging developer, builder and operator of distributed energy systems. We aim to revolutionize the energy sector by leveraging innovative technologies to help large energy consumers and utilities with their energy transition to low carbon solutions.
As a DER Solutions Engineer you will lead the technical development of distributed energy projects that include electrical and thermal energy storage, solar, microgrids, geo-exchange and other emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with project identification: Evaluate potential distributed energy projects brought forward by the Business Development team, considering factors such as technical feasibility, regulatory requirements, market dynamics, and financial viability.
- Project design: In conjunction with the Rodan engineering team and other engineering consultants, oversee the engineering design for distributed energy projects aligned with client requirements.
- Financial analysis: Use existing financial model templates to ensure that contemplated solutions meet the company’s financial viability requirements together with the financial parameters of our clients.
- Technology evaluation: Identify and evaluate technology vendors as needed to deploy Rodan DER’s offered solutions. These technologies will include Microgrid and Load Controls, Electrical and Thermal Energy Storage with available UPS functionality, Solar PV and Thermal, CHP with Engines or Fuel Cells powered by Natural Gas with Carbon Capture or powered by Hydrogen, Electrolysers, Geo-exchange, Electric Vehicles Chargers, and other technologies as they emerge.
Skills and Qualifications:
- University degree in Electrical or Mechatronic engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PEng.) designation.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in renewable energy and/or energy efficiency project development.
- Strong understanding of distributed energy technologies, and financial modeling principles.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity standards and protocols.
- Modeling Software Tools familiarity such as PVsyst, WAsP, Vortex, CYME, Homer, and PSCAD.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work and drive results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Creative thinker with the ability to design unique, yet reliable, technical solutions.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, evaluate risks, and make data-driven decisions.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, with a high level of expertise in Excel, and project management software.

This is a flexible hybrid role where you are required to work both remotely and in person depending on business needs. You will be required to work at our Corporate HQ in Mississauga a minimum of 2 days per week in addition to attending and participating in workshops, projects, or team meetings.
