Behaviour Outreach Facilitator - Full Time

The Behaviour Outreach Facilitator’s primary role is to facilitate Calgary Humane Society’s educational, training, and community outreach programs. These programs aim to build community awareness around positive reinforcement training methods, animal behaviour concerns, and responsible pet ownership while fostering empathy and compassion for the animals in our community.

Duties:

  • Coordinate behaviour training classes and consultations, including:
    • Scheduling classes and private consultations
    • Managing class registration, payments, and client communications
    • Ensuring classes are posted, promoted, filled, and effectively staffed
  • Produce monthly reports summarizing class participation, revenue, and trends for submission to the Director of Community Services & Pathway Planning and the Board
  • Support content development by working with shelter trainers to identify opportunities for new classes, update materials, and align offerings with community needs
  • Assist internal operations by performing training duties as assigned by the Director of Community Services & Pathway Planning or shelter trainers, including supporting staff with training plans or assisting in class delivery
  • Provide high-quality client service by responding to behaviour inquiries, assisting with the behaviour helpline, and directing clients to appropriate resources
  • Maintain positive relationships with contract trainers, class participants, and community partners
  • Support departmental administration, including updating manuals, processes, and behaviour handouts as directed
  • Assist with event and program promotion in collaboration with Marketing and Communications staff
  • Champion CHS values of Compassion, Commitment, Collaboration, and Courage in everyday work
  • Promote a culture of volunteer engagement by working positively with volunteers and supporting recognition initiatives

Position Requirements:

  • Interest in pursuing a professional training certification (e.g., KPA, CPDT, IAABC, Pet Professional Guild)
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and some statutory holidays
  • Basic knowledge of animal behaviour and a desire to expand expertise through professional development
  • Previous professional experience in animal welfare, dog daycare, class coordination, or public relations is an asset
  • Working toward or willing to pursue professional development or certifications in feline/canine behaviour
  • Proven experience delivering effective communication and high-quality customer service
  • Confident public speaker
  • Strong administrative skills; ability to maintain records and produce clear written/verbal reports; intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong time management and ability to work under pressure while balancing multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work with a diverse range of people
  • Flexible and non-judgmental approach
  • Positive, can-do attitude in challenging situations
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset
  • Efficient and effective problem solver
  • Must hold a Class 5 driver’s licence with at least 3 years driving experience and a clean driver’s abstract

Physical Requirements:

  • Comfortable and capable of handling a variety of species (e.g., cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, reptiles, rodents)
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions: sitting, standing, reaching, lifting, squatting, bending, walking, and pulling

Annual Salary:

  • $36,367.50
