Janitor
Join Beacon Community Services as a Janitor, where you will play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at one of our thriving community facilities. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day cleaning, sanitation, and upkeep of assigned areas, ensuring spaces are well-maintained for staff, volunteers, clients, and visitors. Through your attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and commitment to health and safety standards, you will help create comfortable and functional environments that support Beacon's programs and services.

Days/Hours of Work: Thursday and Friday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (10 hours per week)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager, SHOAL Community Centre, the Janitor supports the day‑to‑day operation of the SHOAL Community Centre by maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for seniors, staff, volunteers, and community users. This role focuses on routine custodial cleaning, basic setup support, and minor facility upkeep.
This position is well suited to someone seeking consistent, part‑time hours in a community‑focused setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cleaning & Facility Care
- Perform routine cleaning of community centre spaces, washrooms, and common areas
- Empty garbage and recycling and maintain general tidiness
- Follow established cleaning, sanitation, and safety procedures
Program & Room Support
- Assist with basic room set‑up and take‑down for programs or rentals as needed
- Ensure spaces are ready for use and left clean and orderly
Health & Safety
- Use cleaning products and equipment safely and according to WHMIS guidelines
- Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors
- Follow Beacon policies and procedures
- Perform other related duties as required within the scope of the role
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous custodial, janitorial, or facilities support experience preferred
- Experience in a community, seniors’, or public‑facing setting is an asset
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment
- Good time management and attention to detail
- Physically able to perform custodial duties
- Professional, respectful approach when interacting with seniors and staff
