Consumer Protection BC is looking
for a People & Culture Coordinator to join our team! If
you are interested, review the job description and apply
online by uploading your cover
letter and resume and answering a few pre-screening questions within our online
application portal. AI TRANSPARENCY NOTE: We love clear and authentic writing. If your cover letter sounds like it was written by a very confident robot, chances are it reads nearly identically to the next applicant (this is not a good thing). If you used AI, tell us how (grammar, structure, brainstorming, etc.) and whether you used AI to assist or not, make sure you include the phrase "I read the fine print" somewhere in your cover letter. We value integrity, including transparency around the use of artificial intelligence. AI Disclosure: we used AI to help us brainstorm this concept!
Day in the
life:
No two days are the same — and that’s exactly how you like
it.
Today, you’re starting your morning in the office (after
grabbing some free office snacks and coffee) reviewing applications in our
Applicant Tracking System, identifying strong candidates to recommend to the
supervisor, and coordinating interviews for an open role. Before lunch, you’re
answering an employee question about extended health benefits that requires
more support than usual, while also assisting a manager with onboarding steps
for a new hire.
In the afternoon, you’ve set aside time to update employee
records in our HRIS related to a recent company-wide IDEA training initiative
you executed. While you’re on-site, you’re also coordinating office logistics,
including contractor tours for upcoming renovations, a JOSH Committee
earthquake supply inventory, and purchasing office snacks. You end the day with
a quick check-in with your Victoria-based supervisor, who is eager to connect
about recruitment work and ways you can be supported in developing your HR
skills.
Throughout it all, you are the steady, trusted HR resource
employees and the organization rely on.
Who you are:
- An organized and service-oriented person who understands that HR is both operational and relational.
- A trust-builder who communicates with empathy and professionalism while interpreting and applying policy in a unionized environment.
- Someone who takes ownership of their work, effectively balance priorities, and approaches challenges with curiosity.
What you will be doing:
- Providing responsive HR services related to recruitment, onboarding and offboarding activities, as well as benefits administration.
- Providing front-line HR support to employees on policies, procedures, benefits (including EFAP, pension, group life, extended health and dental), and responding to general inquiries.
- Supporting the Director of People & Culture in developing and implementing HR policies, programs, and engagement initiatives.
- Leading Burnaby-based office management functions, including facilities coordination and leasehold improvement support.
- Contributing to a positive, inclusive, and flexible workplace culture.
We are looking for people who have:
- Post-secondary education in human resources, business administration, or related field and/or at least three years of experience in HR processes and practices.
- Experience supporting small- to medium-scale change initiatives.
- Experience coordinating office management or facility-related functions.
