Overview

  • We have an exciting new opportunity for anyone living in or around the Cochrane, Alberta, area.
  • This role will solely be based in Cochrane; however, if you are keen on picking up more hours and you can venture into Calgary, we'd be happy to offer you more hours.
  • As AAFS grows, our communities demonstrate a greater desire for social and recreational respite services.

Role

  • Create an environment so our members can develop and sustain friendships and relationships, gain and learn social skills and contribute and connect to a greater community. As a Social Experience Guide (SEG), you will be responsible for providing a safe and welcoming environment for our members and their families. 
  • You will get the opportunity to be part of our talented program team and experience new activities, facilities, and features of our town and surrounding areas with our members as you facilitate opportunities for friendship and fun!

Responsibilities

  • Actively promote AAFS commitment to safety
  • Participates in play with members and encourages participation amongst our members while guiding and facilitating opportunities to develop personal connections with others.
  • Fulfills and contributes to shared leadership role while on activity (as defined by AAFS).
  • Promotes and encourages self-advocacy amongst members and staff.
  • Actively assists members in improving social thinking and life skills.
  • Accurately details observations through Break the Barrier preceding each activity.
  • Facilitates and contributes to both in-person and online/digital programming.
  • Attends and contributes to all team meetings (as scheduled/hybrid options available).
  • Actively engages in all mandatory staff and annual Growth Track meetings (performance and goal review).
  • Other general and miscellaneous duties, as required.

Job Qualifications

  • Due to the nature of our work, we require all staff to be 18 years or older.
  • You must demonstrate a solid commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers Licence is considered an asset in this role.
  • You must be a self-starter who takes the initiative and can work with little supervision.
  • You feel compelled to take action in the workplace without requiring additional prompting.
  • You enjoy the finer details and are willing to ensure correct and accurate information entering our database.
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • You maintain professional verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
  • You must have patience and understanding as they play a significant role in this position.
  • You have a strong desire to help people and improve their daily lives.
  • You are sensitive to a member's needs and concerns.
  • You are an excellent team player.
