Job Summary
The Disability Claims Specialist position is a crucial part of our Claims Management and Early and Safe Return to Work process. Reporting directly to the Disability Claims Manager, this role is responsible for coordinating and administrating occupational and non-occupational claims, as well as data management, maintaining records, and helping to design and maintain key KPI’s. By assessing and promoting the needs of the business by proactively managing disability claims, you will bring tangible results and work collaboratively throughout our Canadian sites in a manner that is in line with our Company Goals and Values.
Responsibilities:
- As the first point of contact for the administration of all claims and for leading return to work activities, will work with the Disability Claims Manager and Leaders in the field to ensure the proper and timely filing of all claims and suitable and sustainable return to work outcomes.
- Administrates and enters all claims into various databases as well as disability providers and/or governing bodies.
- Maintains computerized claim files and hard copy claims filing system by compiling the relevant documents, opinions, and recommendations of all parties.
- Provides information to all stakeholders on the return-to-work practices and processes as well as educate them on their rights and obligations.
- Develops, implements, and monitors individual return-to-work/accommodation plans for injured/ill employees in consultation with various stakeholders, which may include further accommodations and/or transition to a different job.
- Ensures that injured/ill employees are receiving satisfactory treatment and rehabilitation services.
- Identifies issues that present obstacles to the return-to-work and the intervention(s) required to overcome them and achieve positive return-to-work outcomes.
- Assists the Disability Claims Manager in designing and implementing disability management programs that focus on health promotion, disability prevention and early and safe return-to-work and leading practices.
- Responds to inquiries from various stakeholders throughout Canada regarding claims administration and return to work practices and disability insurance.
- Under the direction of the Disability Claims Manager, will participate in disability and return to work management awareness training.
- Responsible for the proactive administrative management of assigned disability claims (STD, LTD and Life Waiver) and workplace claims by determining the length of disability through an evaluation of medical information and job duties for all Canadian sites.
- Review and lead Emterra’s occupational and non-occupational injury administration and program, disability management programs utilizing best practice to optimize supports and resources at each site.
- Under the direction of the Disability Claims Manager, provide regular updates to a variety of stakeholders (employees, managers, physicians, specialists, unions, providers, etc.) and gather the relevant information allowing the initial and ongoing assessment and management of an employee’s occupational and non-occupational injuries.
- Liaise with LTD Insurer to determine status of claims, action plans and next steps.
- Develop, compile, coordinate, analyze and monitor various case management reports.
- Track exemptible incidents from the Attendance Management Program for all Non-Culpable absenteeism in coordination and collaboration with the HR department.
- Provide supplemental coverage for the Disability Claims Management during vacation, time off etc.
- Assist with the onboarding and HR training for new hires.
- Assist the VP of HR with HR related and administrative tasks, as assigned.
- This role may require site visits and is an onsite role.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years’ experience with administrative experience in data analytics.
- 1-2 years’ experience in disability claim management.
- Post secondary education in a related field is required.
- Occupational Health and Safety certification is an asset.
- Knowledge of Provincial Workers Compensation legislation, Provincial Employment Standards Acts and Occupational Health and Safety regulations, Duty to Accommodate, Human Rights Code, Privacy laws, FIPPA, etc.; and provincial specific legislation (e.g., AODA).
- Excellent written and oral communication with various cross functional teams and internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to develop and analyze relevant occupational health and safety statistical data.
- Ability to handle sensitive issues and to protect confidential medical information.
- Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of various software, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and professional judgement.
- Previous work experience at Provincial Workers Compensation organizations is an asset
Salary - $60,000 - $70,000
