Southampton Care Centre is a fully accredited long term care home in Southampton, Ontario and serves 88 residents. Southampton is a lakeside community on Lake Huron, known for its white sand beaches, historic downtown, and cultural arts scene. Situated at the mouth of the Saugeen River and approximately 49 km south of Owen Sound, it provides a peaceful atmosphere for residents and visitors alike, with diverse dining options, local shops, and activities suited for beach-goers and art enthusiasts.
Join our team as a Co-Culinary Manager!
Reporting to the Culinary Manager, the Co-Culinary Manager coordinates and supervises the daily operations of Food Services, including food preparation, staff supervision, inventory, and enforcing safety and sanitation standards under the Manager’s direction. The incumbent will
ensure that continuous quality improvement outcomes approved for the Home are met or exceeded, and demonstrate dedication to professional values and the mission, vision and values of the Home.
Key responsibilities of the Co-Culinary Manager include:
Maintaining regular communication with the Culinary Manager to report concerns, share updates, and support departmental alignment.
Providing hands-on leadership to ensure high-quality nutritional care and a resident-centered approach to meal service, fostering a solutions-focused environment.
Assists in supervising dietary staff, including training, coaching, and performance evaluation to promote team engagement and professional growth.
Partners with the Culinary Nutrition Manager to develop and update dietary education materials and in-service programs; facilitates training for dietary and interdisciplinary staff.
Conducts daily inspections of kitchen and serveries to proactively identify and resolve operational issues, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and compliance. Oversee special events working collaboratively with the Life Enrichment Department. Coordinates dietary support for catering, holiday meals, cultural events, and special functions.
Oversees the preparation and delivery of all meals and nourishments, ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to dietary standards.
Manages ordering and inventory of food, supplies, and equipment to maintain adequate stock levels and support uninterrupted service.
Ensures resident profiles are accurate and up to date, including timely updates of Registered Dietitian (RD) reports and clinical assessments.
Coordinates bi-annual seasonal menu changes, daily menu adjustments, and special event menus to reflect resident preferences and nutritional needs. Collaborates with CM for this process
Monitors food production levels, adjusting for shortages or excess to minimize waste and ensure efficient resource use.
Verifies completion of temperature logs, preventative maintenance, chemical (PPM) logs, and daily cleaning schedules to uphold safety and sanitation standards.
Performs regular audits of meal service and kitchen operations to ensure duties are completed and standards are consistently met.
Participates in Resident Food Committee/Council meetings to gather feedback, address concerns, and enhance the dining experience.
We are looking for the following qualifications and traits:
Current Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM).
Education in Nutrition, Dietetics and/or Food and Nutrition Management.
Experience working in long-term care dietary departments with a strong background in quantity food production, food service operations, clinical nutrition, Meal Suite, menu planning, ordering, procurement and staff supervision.
Minimum 2 years in a food service-related management role.
General knowledge of nutrition and a basic understanding of therapeutic diets to support resident-specific dietary needs.
Proven leadership abilities with experience in supervising staff and managing labour relations effectively.
Thorough knowledge of: Health and safety protocols, infection prevention and control standards, safe food handling and sanitation practices in healthcare settings.
Familiarity with relevant legislation, including:
Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2021 and Ontario Regulation 246/22
Occupational Health and Safety Act
Employment Standards Act
Human Rights Code and other applicable labour laws.
