Works independently to ensure accurate billing and collections efforts.  Is highly proficient at insurance coding and interacts with various insurance providers.  Responsible for performing front desk functions as well as providing support for the administrative requirements of the various commercial dental insurance plans.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.      Acts as a lead and resources for other front desk personnel.
 
2.      Maintains knowledge of all duties of Program Assistant I and II.     
 
3.      Schedules appointments to accommodate patients; resolves scheduling conflicts and fits in emergency appointments.  Makes any necessary         arrangements for patients’ special needs.  Confirms appointments with patients for the next business day.
 
4.      Investigate and research information in order to resolve dental insurance discrepancies. 
 
5.      Verifies contact information and that insurance is still active.  Obtains insurance pre-authorization of coverage.  Informs patient of current charges and any balance due before any service is rendered. 
 
6.      Completes claims coding and submission on a bi-weekly basis for assigned clinic with direction from Office Administrator.
 
7.   Requests payment for any procedures in accordance with the University of Maryland Dental School's policies and procedures guidelines.   Responds to inquires about patient's account. Requests payment when account is delinquent and performs account reconciliations.
 
8.      Under direct supervision, handles day-to-day payment transactions makes change; receives checks; processes credit card transactions; issues receipts; writes outcome assessments for identified accounts.
 
9.   Updates patient dental insurance and personal information as needed.  Manage patient dental insurance plans and contracts including patient records, insurance templates, and master files.
 
10.  Run insurance A/R report monthly and reconcile accounts daily receipt with AxiUM daily ledger and deposit receipts into the night deposit box.
 
11.  Handles day-to-day payment transactions makes change; receives checks; processes credit card transactions; issues receipts; writes outcome assessment for identified accounts.
 
12.  Coordinate with Dental providers to obtain necessarily information (i.e. narratives, treatment notes) in order to submit accurate claims and to resolve disputes/appeals.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1 - 3 years’ related experience.  Experience as front office dental practice a preferred.  Related education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. 

 

 

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:Knowledge of commercial dental insurance policies, services, guidelines and procedures.    Independently perform specialized tasks.  Proficient in applying basic analytical skills to problems where clear precedent may not exist.  Knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment.  Must have good customer service, interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships. Ability to apply close attention to detail in performing routine clerical tasks.  Ability to follow oral and written instructions.   
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Overtime, on-call and shift work may be required.
