Located in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, SOWINS is a non-profit society providing safe refuge and community-based resources for women and children in the South Okanagan. SOWINS operates a transitional and second stage housing facilities, as well as counselling and outreach services. At SOWINS we work from an intersectional feminist philosophy and support trauma-informed practice and harm reduction models.  


 

ABOUT THE ROLE: We are currently recruiting for a regular Part-Time Child and Youth Support Worker to join the multidisciplinary Transition House team. This role is responsible for providing transition support and programing for children and youth staying at the Transition House. This is done through seasonal activities and one-to-one engagement and connection; the responsibility for the development and implementation of these activities sits with the Child and Youth Support Worker.   

The Child and Youth Support Worker works with youth to identify their short-term and long-term goals with respect to education, special interests, housing and extra-curricular activities.   

The Child and Youth Support Worker will engage a trauma informed and child centered approach to provide evidence-based programing and services for children and youth during their stay at the Transition House. 

 

Schedule: This position is scheduled to work 21 hours per week. The scheduled shifts will be: Wednesday, Thursday 2:00pm – 7:00pm; and Friday, Saturday 11:00am – 4:30pm.

 

Union: This position requires union membership, under Health Sciences Association (HSA). 


Wage: $27.54 – $31.61 per hour depending on length of service (HSA Grid 11). This position will also receive a Temporary Market Adjustment (TMA), to reach the wage rate of $31.56 – $33.49.  UNDER REVIEW

Start date: April 16, 2025 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Completion of a Child and Youth Diploma or a related Diploma in a Human Services field from a recognized post-secondary institution.  

  1. Minimum 1-year recent related experience working with children or youth in crisis within a Transition House(s) or related community service setting. 

  1. First Aid & CPR Level C  

  1. Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI)   

  1. Valid Class 5  BC Drivers License and acceptable current drivers abstract    


    OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
