SCOPE AND LEVEL DEFINITION
Reporting to the Tenancy Support Coordinator, or designate, the Residence Building Attendant will provide support to individuals with varying mental health and substance use challenges, in a residential setting. Working as part of a broader community heath care continuum, with a distinct focus on tenancy and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living. Promoting a safe, healthy, and non threatening environment, that instills a sense of dignity and self respect. Participates in the planning, development, implementation, delivery and modification of non-clinical, client centred support, in consultation with Shift Leads. Motivates, assists and instructs tenants with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, reports observed tenant health conditions, and incidents. Residential support and maintenance duties are also part of this role.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist and promote healthy lifestyle choices to tenants regarding Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) including: laundry, cooking, cleaning etc. Support positive tenant choices, provide guidance and assistance where applicable.
- Provides tenants with information regarding their tenancy agreement, tenancy law, suite upkeep and housing program guidelines.
- Identifies and promotes available social, economic, recreational and educational services and resources in the community that will help meet clients needs.
- Creates, facilitates and/or promotes, programs, groups or other activities that encourage social engagement.
- Ensures safety of tenants, guests and staff by participating in safety checks, being aware of safety concerns and protocol, directing emergency drills, and contacting appropriate services in the event of an emergency.
- Observes tenant behaviour, investigates and handles disturbances, deals with tenant emergencies in accordance with guidelines, and reports incidents to appropriate staff and/or authorities.
- Observes tenants, identifies and assesses potential emergency situations, and develops short term strategies to handle these situations.
- Reports medical, behavioural and other issues as required. Provides feedback and input to other staff and team leads, regarding tenants, needs, and support.
- Performs administrative functions related to property maintenance and landlord/tenant relations such as suite inspections, keys, visitors, and office support.
- Performs basic maintenance and repair work such as unplugging sinks and toilets, filling nail holes, assisting tenants with hanging pictures, replacing lightbulbs etc. Building upkeep and maintenance, light janitorial duties. Recording of cleaning schedule and notification of major repairs needed or deficiencies.
- Provide education and support with the management of insect and rodent issues that may arise. Includes bed bug treatments, safe transport and remediation of personal belongings and furniture. Standard procedure upon move in to Wesley St.
- Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials, and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous materials.
- Completes and maintains related records and documentation, such as incident reports, daily tenant logs, communication book.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Typical Education, Training and Experience
- Grade 12
- Mental Health Worker and/or Addictions Certificate is preferred
- Computer skills - Google, iOS and mobile technology knowledge an asset
- Certificate in First Aid, CPR and Naloxone
- Foodsafe
- Class V license
- WHIMIS Certification
- Basic building maintenance and operation skills
- Full COVID-19 Vaccination
- Relevant work experience - minimum 2 years
Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Or other Qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work
