Reports to: Manager, Facilities
Location: Hamilton, ON Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
Start Date: TBD
Contract Length: 6 Months

PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Supports Outreach Program by performing all routine, preventive and emergency cleaning outside of YWCA Hamilton’s MacNab location.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain clean and clear outdoors space on YWCA Hamilton property through removal of litter and abandoned belongings of individuals who are encamped and/or lingering outside YWCA Hamilton;
- Work closely with YWCA Hamilton Outreach Workers to support efforts to remove abandoned belongings;
- Ensure sharps/needles are removed in appropriate receptacles;
- Documents and reports any and all facility or supply issues to the Manager of Facilities;
- Works safely, reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
- Familiar with, and adheres to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, (OHSA) Workplace Safety Insurance Board Act (WSIB), Human Rights and Employment Standards Act (ESA);
- Participates in annual Health & Safety training provided by the YWCA;
- Follows the Sharps Safety and Reporting Guidelines to minimize risk to self and others while exposed to sharps.
- Ensures compliance with YWCA Hamilton policies and procedures;
- Works safely, reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures;
- Participates in mandatory organizational and departmental training and meetings;
- Understands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;
- Supports YWCA’s mission, vision and values;
- Performs other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works 37.5 hours work week;
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required;
May require some lifting or pulling of heavy objects; must be able to lift up to 40lbs;
Must be able to work outdoors for long periods of time; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold;
Regularly works in emotional charged situations requiring resolution, which can be hostile or violent at times.
Qualifications
Completion of high school or equivalent;
Minimum of 1-3 years of previous custodian experience;
Experience working in non-for profit or social services environment an asset;
Ability to work compassionately with individuals experiencing homelessness and / or mental health concerns;
Ability to maintain a positive and professional approach at all times;
Must provide a current Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Police Check or willing to obtain at own cost;
Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate or willing to obtain at own cost;
Must be able to work from a feminist, anti-racist/ anti-oppressive perspective and harm reduction framework;
Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
