POSITION: Shop Labourer
LOCATION: Dease Lake
STATUS: Full Time – Permanent Position
CLOSING DATE: September 17, 2024
Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC) is looking for a Shop Labourer to join the Dease Lake team. You are a self-starter and team player. You are reliable and dependable. This position is Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with the willingness to work extended hours as approved. All TNDC positions are paid in accordance with the BC Employment Standards Act.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the site supervisor, or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Attend daily toolbox, safety and other meetings or discussions.
- Perform pre-shift trip safety inspections and complete daily equipment reports.
- Prepare working area and adhere to all job safety requirements prior to starting work.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices.
- May be required to perform part delivery to various TNDC jobsites within the Tahltan territory.
- Participate in any other specified training as recommended.
- Assist in general labour and other duties as required.
- Clean and organize shop, sea cans and yard.
- Pressure wash equipment as directed.
- Shovel snow in the winter, sweep walks in the summer.
- Required to do janitorial work in the office.
- Assist mechanics and welders with their projects.
- Assist in the warehouse, shipping and receiving and parts stocking/issuing.
Qualifications
- Local to the Dease Lake area.
- Have a mechanical aptitude.
- Experience working in the industry would be an asset, but not a requirement.
- Valid driver’s license required; must be able to provide current driving record.
- Valid Occupational First Aid (OFA) and WHMIS certificates preferred.
- Ability or willingness to learn to operate skid steer as required.
- Experience working in a mechanical setting is required.
- Proven commitment to safety, health, and environmental standards.
- Able to take direction, follow instructions, adapt to changing priorities and multi-task.
- Strong work ethic with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- A team player who works respectfully and cooperatively with others.
Conditions of Employment
- Pass mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and fitness for work assessment.
- Physically fit to meet job requirements; able to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to maintain performance during duration of shift and extreme weather conditions.
