Crane Operator
JOURNEYPERSON: CRANE OPERATOR, COAST MOUNTAIN HYDRO SERVICES INC.
NOTE: This position falls under the jurisdiction of the IBEW Local 258.
SALARY: $62.23 hourly $129,438 per annum
Coast Mountain Hydro Services Inc. (CMH) is seeking a full-time Crane Operator to add to our small team of dedicated professionals to manage the operation and maintenance of our hydroelectric facilities.
CMH is an award-winning Recipient of a 2019 Clean Energy BC (CEBC) award for Operational Excellence] run-of-the-river hydroelectric project – comprising the Forrest Kerr, McLymont and Volcano Hydroelectric Facilities. We are located in Northwestern BC, with the Coast Mountain Range to the west and Skeena Mountains to the east, approximately 100 km from the town of Stewart and within the Golden Triangle in Tahltan Territory.
CMH is owned by Axium Infrastructure, Manulife, TriSummit Utilities and the Tahltan Nation. With two active mines in proximity, and an estimated $365.9M of exploration expenditures incurred in the Northwest throughout 2021, CMH - which generates 300 megawatts, enough to power 225,000 homes – is providing a source of clean power to local Tahltan communities while supporting sustainable companies in the exploration and mining industry.
Functional Responsibility
Reporting to the O&M Manager or delegate and acting under guidance and supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the Crane Operator will perform crane operation with duties including planning lifts, operating cranes, and directing and assisting rigging and blocking. They will also be required to operate many types of heavy equipment, load and unload material, perform road maintenance duties and assist in other areas as required.
Principal Responsibilities
- Operation and daily maintenance of mobile cranes up to 80 ton.
- Perform rigging work and direct others in same. Provide guidance and direction to others engaged in similar work.
- Maintain and operate the following equipment:
- Grader
- Rock Truck
- Excavator
- Soft track vehicles
- Skid Steer and attachments
- Loader/Forklifts
- Other equipment and vehicles as required
- Perform road maintenance duties including grading, ditching, brushing, filling.
- Perform minor repairs and lubrication on assigned machines and implements.
- Operate/maintain simple power tools, hand tools and equipment.
- As required, will assist in the maintenance of the plant equipment and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Crane Operator with a Red Seal (previously called A Ticket).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience operating cranes.
- Class 5 Driver’s Licence as a minimum, a Class 1 or 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement is an asset.
- Must be physically capable of performing all the duties of the position.
- Capable of working with minimum supervision.
- Ability to write reports and make calculations relative to the work being performed.
- Thorough knowledge in the practices of handling, securing and hauling of heavy equipment.
- Possess thorough knowledge of the equipment in its use and service requirements.
- Familiar with and adhere to safe work rules.

About this opportunity:
· A permanent camp has been constructed for the operations team. The facilities include private rooms with bathrooms, a weight room, entertainment area and other amenities.
· The schedule will be 14 days on followed by 14 days off. Note that there are travel days outside of the 14 day shift. During time on, employees will be 'on-call' in case of emergencies.
· On the job training will be provided.
Additional Information:
Travel costs from employee's primary residence (in British Columbia or Alberta) airport to Terrace B.C. are covered by the company. Travel from Terrace to the worksite is done by driving with other co-workers in company vehicles.
