Policy Manager
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Policy Manager will be responsible for reviewing and developing policies across Main Street Project. This role will collaborate with all program areas to assess policies needs, edit and write policies, and assist with policy training & implementation. The Policy Manager will play a key role in ensuring all policies align with MSP Values as well as ensuring policies are standardized and accessible throughout the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Policy Management
- Develop and implement organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Coordinate with department leadership to assess policy needs and develop strategies to address organizational challenges.
- Conduct research on evidence-based best practice policies
- Draft policy documents, including guidelines, standards, and procedures, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and effectiveness.
- Facilitate policy review meetings with stakeholders to gather feedback, discuss policy implications, and achieve consensus.
- Gather feedback from community members on policies that affect them
- Collaborate with Indigenous Relations team on ensuring policies that align with TRC and UNDRIP
- Monitor the impact of implemented policies, analyzing performance data and stakeholder feedback to identify areas for improvement.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies and industry associations to represent the organization’s interests and stay informed about regulatory changes.
- Develop and lead training for staff regarding new and existing policies.
- Oversee the archiving of obsolete policies and the documentation of policy changes, maintaining a comprehensive and up-to-date policy library.
- Review and revise policies through the lens of Main Street Project Values: Trauma Informed, Harm Reduction, Truth & Reconciliation, Decolonization & Anti-Oppression.
On-Call Duties
- Ensure you are available to your team in accordance to the on-call policy
- Participate on-call rotational support
KEY DELIVERABLES
- Each program area at Main Street Project has a comprehensive Policy Manual.
- Policies across the organization are standardized, aligned and accessible
- All staff are receive applicable policy trainings, included annual refresher training.
- In collaboration with HR, ensure policy sign off documentation is up to date for all staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset
- Two years exemplary management experience in a non-profit setting preferably in the human services/ social services sector
- Experience with policy development & research
- Knowledge and training in working with substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorder best practices
- Demonstrated problem solving and crisis/risk assessment and intervention skills
- Ability to apply Harm Reduction and Housing First philosophies in day-to-day work and interactions
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral and written communication and conflict de-escalation and resolution skills
- Ability to maintain a positive collaborative relationship among staff
- Excellent planning, organizational, problem solving and facilitation skills
- Strong attention to detail and excellent technical writing skills
- Windows and MS Office proficiency
- Strong knowledge, commitment and demonstrated ability to apply diversity, equity, cultural safety, pro-choice, social determinants of health, population health, anti-oppression, harm reduction, trauma-informed and community development principles in all aspects of the work.
- Ability to work flexible hours to allow for attendance at meetings and may include evening, holiday, or weekend consultation.
- Knowledge of Indigenous Culture
- Knowledge of TRC Calls to Action, MMIWG Call to Justice, and UNDRIP
- Additional languages (Indigenous) are considered an asset
- Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to effectively manage budgets and resources
- Satisfactory Criminal Record with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and a Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations
- Work hours subject to program needs to ensure coverage during all hours of operation
- Work is primarily performed in an office setting location. Frequent sitting including use of computer and cell phone.
- Occasional physical work, including lifting, bending, climbing stairs, carrying up to 35 pounds
- Ability to support individuals who use substances and experience mental health challenges
