About the Role:
SCCSS is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Summer Student to help create a fun, inclusive, and engaging camp experience for youth with brain differences and other support needs. As the Program Assistant, you’ll support the planning and delivery of recreational programming, assist during community outings, and work closely with the Youth Services team during outreach and group activities. This is a great opportunity for students passionate about youth engagement, inclusive programming, and building stronger communities.
What You’ll Do
- Creates and maintains a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all youth participants.
- Delivers age-appropriate programming, making adaptations as needed to ensure accessibility and engagement.
- Encourages self-regulation, confidence, and personal development using a strengths-based approach.
- Plans and facilitates group activities such as arts and crafts, drama, cooperative games, and sports.
- Assists Youth Workers in supervising youth during on-site programs and community outings, ensuring safety and well-being.
- Designs and implements creative and engaging programming tailored to the needs of youth groups.
- Participate in Youth Outreach shifts alongside Youth Workers, applying a harm-reduction and relationship-based approach.
- Ensures services are delivered in alignment with SCCSS policies, values, and legal, contractual, and compliance standards.
- Contributes to organizational effectiveness by assisting with other tasks as needed.
- Actively engages in daily staff planning and debrief meetings to support cohesive team operations.
What You Bring
- Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years.
- Demonstrates respect for diversity, including race, culture, class, gender, sexual orientation, and ability.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds is considered an asset.
- Education or training in child and youth care, intellectual disabilities, or mental health is an asset, but not required.
- Current First Aid Certificate is an asset but not required.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check is required.
- Manoeuvring wheelchairs; pushing and/or pulling
- Activities such as, but not limited to, swimming, cooking and hiking
- Significant lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
- This position works in various locations across the Sunshine Coast. Ability to independently get to locations necessary.
